I got the theme I wanted from a particular collection of Dwell Studio crib bedding - we only actually bought the crib skirt from there and a pillow for the glider. I found complimentary sheets from PBK to use with the skirt and have kind of built my own theme around that. We just painted the nursery yesterday, I can't wait to get it set up actually
We got ours at Serena & Lily. We weren't doing any other crib bedding (e.g., bumper, quilt, etc.) so we splurged a bit on the sheets. But, they are awesome. Fit great and have not faded at all after many, many washings over the past year.
I my favorite sheets are the circo tshirt like, knit crib sheets from target. They have elastic all the way around, nice and soft, and have held up well over the last 3 years.
I also have some basic koala baby cotton sheets from BRU that are fine too. Not quite as soft, but durable.
And some annette tantum sheets, that came with our bedding set, they absolutely beautiful. I use them when I have company coming over.
I couldn't find anything neutral I liked. So I bought fabric and made a bed skirt and curtain. We bought sheets from BRU. It would have been a waste to buy the whole set anyway since we won't use the bumpers or quilt.
I think crib bedding sets are a waste of $. Bumpers/quilts are unecessary and a safety risk. Other things such as diaper stackers, etc. are also a waste of $.
We registered for sheets and I plan to make my own crib skirt using this tutorial. We will use wearable blankets/swaddles as needed and will just buy a blanket as-needed when baby gets older.
I couldn't find anything I liked and nothing in our colors, grey, yellow and aqua, so I am having everything made from someone on Etsy, even drapes. it's all going to coordinate, a skirt, rail guards, sheets, change pad cover. She was awesome to work with and I am getting exactly what I was looking for.

That's my color scheme too and I'm having a hard time finding something I like. I'd be interested to see what you've picked out or to know what etsy shop you're using.

Etsy has great sets that you can customize.
