Trying to Get Pregnant

Best birth plan ever!!!1!

I'm on mobile so the punctuation will be eaten. If someone on a computer could add dashes between all the words in this phrase "NC couple plans for dolphin assisted baby delivery" and repost the link, that'd be lovely.

https://www.kptv.com/story/22442763/nccoupleplansfordolphinassistedbabydelivery

The couple in this article is back in NC, but there are still people who do this. And by this, I mean give birth in the ocean with the help of wild dolphins.

If I get a BFP that sticks, I want to present this to my OB as a birth plan.

But, at the end of the written story it says they planned a prebirth with the dolphins instead of doing the actual birth with them.

I am fighting the urge to call the Sirius Institute to see if anyone has done this birth before.

According to their website it's a thing.

The website is amazing, by the way.

I must have missed that part when I read the article. I'm somewhat relieved.

I want to know their mindset behind this. I mean, really? What point is there to this? I get birthing the way you want, but this seems a little extreme.

I skimmed the website. It really is amazing. In the FAQ it said something about how the birth experience affects us as adults, and being born with dolphins will reduce the need for "police and the like." So logical. Big Smile

I love those clearly "scientific" facts. Dolphin births decrease crime! Everyone should do it!

They do get 1 to 2 emails a week asking about using these dolphin birthing services. Perhaps the bump should offer a coupon.

I can't put my finger on why, but this seems a little bit like animal cruelty to me. I love dolphins as much as anyone, but using them to suit my own purposes seems wrong.

Although, if it really is just the pre-birth portion and they just swim around with them until labor really starts- more power to them. I think it'd be a fun way to relax- but then, so would swimming in general.

  • I haven't read it yet but the first thing that comes to my mind is a dozen dolphins taking turns making punches at a pregnant belly with their noses to push the baby out, and high fiving each other as they swim by.

    What..about..sharks..?

That was my first thought. Heck, I'm scared of swimming in the ocean anyways. The idea of being at least half naked with blood and my child coming out of me seems like a huge recipe for disaster, both for the baby, but I'd think also for me.

No amount of dolphin cuteness or harmony would make up for that.

Seriously, this is really out there.

  • Also, we see dolphins all the time when we go out to surf, but I never thought "this is a sign! i must have a dolphin birth"

This. Also, I'd be terrified of losing grip of my baby in the ocean, and the baby drowning. The ocean is one of the last places I'd feel safe giving birth.

  • imageannabenanna:

Not only this, but it's CALIFORNIA. Of course you're going to see a lot of dolphins and people from Hawaii. I bet you anything those people are Hippies, like legitimate, mostly off-the-grid, meeting in the wild for festivals to the moon goddess Hippies. They remind me so much of the one's I've meet, right down to the interesting accent.

  • imageGhostMonkey:

And one point that has been completely missed- uh, dolphins are carnivores. Babies are small. Bad idea.

It actually says something about it being dangerous in the article I read. What morons.
