We are planning to buy our almost 2-yr olds tricycles for their birthday next week. I was planning to get good 'ol metal Radio Flyer style, but now i am not so sure. Do you guys have any favorites/recommendations?
Thanks!
We have a radio flyer but I think the Kettlers are a little nicer and little smaller- so good for the younger ones.
That said, I almost wished we'd just skipped the tricycle and gone for the balance bike.
From personal experience, the best thing to do is have one of each. Just like BBs are great for teaching balance, trikes are great for teaching the mechanics of pedaling, which can be equally hard for them. If you let them practice both separately, putting them together on a "real" bike is super-easy.
Since your kids are young, definitely look for ones designed for littler kids. I got some really cool flip trikes (trike on one side/flip handle bars to make a big wheel). They ended up being too big and the boys couldn't ride them for almost a year. They fit the age requirements on the box and are actually tall for their age but they still couldn't reach the pedals.

I agree with this. My IL's spent a ton of money on this big, heavy, old-school trike for my boys. The problem is, neither could even reach the pedals until they were four, and at that point they were riding two-wheelers and weren't even interested in it any longer.
