July 2013 Moms

No so enjoyable dr's appt

I had a regular scheduled doctors appointment this morning and it just didn't go well. DH came to my appointment with me and he had to head off to the airport afterward to catch a flight out of town. We arrived to my appointment 15 minutes early and didn't get called back to a room for an hour. I was trying not to get irritated because I didn't want it to show in my blood pressure,so I tried to relax. After waiting in the room for 20 minutes, DH had waited as long as he could and had to leave. I continued to wait. Waiting another hour in the exam room, the doctor finally came in. I will say the first thing she did was apologize for the wait, her staff had overbooked her, so she was behind.

The actual appointment did go ok. My LO is now measuring big (she wasn't 2 weeks ago) and the doctor mentioned it could be a big baby or I could have too much fluid. I have an u/s scheduled next week (routine). I am leaning on the side of a big baby, DS-2 was estimated at 8 lbs.

About too much fluid, anyone had any experience with this? What would they do about it? ( I didn't think to ask the doctor at the time, I was thinking about lunch because I was starving at that point)

I am not worrying myself over it at this point. I want to see what the u/s tells me. I haven't had an u/s since I was 19 weeks and I am looking forward to it.

Re: No so enjoyable dr's appt

  • I have high water because of GD I have had with evry pregnancy. The baby produces more urine due to the GD hence higher aminotic fluid. Reason other then that I am not going to be helpful with but as related to GD high water isn't a risk just a side effect.

  • I have excess water, so am measuring ahead. I don't have GD as I have been tested twice already. My dr doesn't know why I have extra, I just do. Baby girl is doing fine. She is measuring ahead as well. I have weekly ultrasounds until I have her. They check the baby and check fluid levels at each ultrasound. My dr said extra fluid won't hurt her, I will just be more uncomfortable. I am due July 25, so almost 32 weeks along.

I wouldn't worry either. Like pp said, there's nothing to be done if there is too much fluid. Maybe just a few more ultrasounds to check fluid and LO's kidneys. There will be more discomfort because there's more to carry around. Too bad hubby couldn't be present for the exam. I was irritated when I read how long you had to wait. Hope your next appointment goes better.

Wow! that stinks you had to wait for so long.  I know several people who have had excess fluid without GD.  Nothing was wrong with mom or baby. Of course, every case is different, and I'm glad you are getting an ultrasound to make sure.  Just wanted to reassure you that excess fluid can mean nothing!
  • Thank You ladies!! I am looking forward to the u/s next week to see what is going on and maybe get an estimate on how big she is getting.

If this wait time was more at the beginning of my pregnancy, I would consider going to another office. This is the longest I have had to wait and it was annoying.
