A 3D present...

For you farther along momma's... I'm only 17 weeks so I don't know... I'm giving a friend of mine a 3D 4D sono next week for a gift. Long story behind it. She doesn't know she's going yet and not sure how far she is :part of the long story of drs giving her a million due dates: but did any have an early sonogram like this done and they told them gender already? That would be a double win for me to give to her. Just curious how early with this kind of picture they can actually "tell". Just for my own curiosity! Thanks ladies! The earliest shed be is maybe 13 weeks. I know it's way early for 2D just curious about 3 and 4D.

I found out at 16 weeks 6 days what i was having, its really hard bc their skin is still really translucent and is barely dark enough for an ultrasound picture. They still did a confirmation ultrasound at 21 weeks for me. 13 weeks is usually when the anatomy if a boy starts to grow and girl starts to develop. and as far as the spotty due dates, they determine that by the measurements of the baby, so if she has went to several doctors at different times baby could be measuring bigger and bigger giving them a better "educated guess" about her due date. It will be trial and error with the 3d-4d sono for anatomy, but congrats on your babies me and my friend are only 4 weeks apart and its exciting to have someone going through this time with.

I was 16 weeks when I found out. They confirmed it at my 20 week scan.

I had a 4d peek at 16 weeks, and you couldn't see anything. It was really bad.

I went again at 25 weeks and you could see his facial features, yet still not great. I went at 28 weeks and got some better shots, but my baby likes to cover his face. I went again t 33 weeks and it was perfect! still covered his face, but we were able to get some good shots.

Thank you! Well one doc says go off her period edd. I said a measuring sono is really the best way to know what your date is. She had one and the other doc said sonogram techs "guess" the due date. Measurements don't mean anything. It's about half driving me nuts and its not my baby lol. So I figured I'd just do this for her. So she can finally announce. She's a month behind me. ::I guess lol::

I believe she meant that between 28 and 32 weeks is when they recommend or allow 3 & 4D sonos. I know mine won't do it before 25 weeks. Just something you may ask about.

I'd be surprised if a place would do a 3D or 4D sono that early, 2D is really the best view for the first 20 or so weeks. The point of a 3 or 4D at a boutique US place is to see facial features, which a 13 week fetus will not have yet.

Also, the boutique place by me requires a waiver signed off by an OB stating that the mother is in good health and has had at least one ultrasound already. I believe this is because they are for entertainment use only, and don't want to be the ones to discover a defect, or that there isn't a heartbeat, etc. If you're gifting this to a friend make sure you've read all the fine print and see if they have a waiver your friend will need to get her Dr. to sign off on.

No doctor is going to look at results from a boutique place and use that to set a due date.

Did she have a regular period and certain of her LMP? If so, using the LMP for dating purposes is a perfectly acceptable method. Plenty of doctors refuse early u/s solely for that purpose.

Yup already have done all that. I'd gift a 2D sonogram but I can't get those unless she goes to a drs office and I can't persay do that lol.. She had one sono at 57 weeks. This place does gender determination at 16 weeks and if they can't get it. You come back for free. But this ISN'T why I'm sending her. I was just curious if it was gonna be am added bonus

Most 3d/4d places can tell at 14w. I went in and had mine done at 14w, but he would not open his legs. We were there for 30 minutes and he wouldn't move. So make sure you book the u/s for a place that does a free rescan! Mine did and they had me come back at 16w and he spread his legs wide open that time! Make sure to tell your friend to drink some orange juice or something sugary about 30 minutes before she goes- that makes a huge difference!

I also found out at 16weeks with a 3d sono. The place I went to wouldn't even tell me unless I was atleast 16weeks along. I also told them I isn't want to know unless we got a for sure look... I didn't want a "best guess"
