We had a 7 month weight check for LO today, and I asked about "forbidden foods" while we were there. I was told that the only thing he can't have is honey...she said we could go ahead with any nut butters. So I think we might try some this weekend.
When do you plan to do peanut butter/other nuts? I know there's one or two people who already have done them...did your LO like them? What did they think of the texture/consistency?
Re: When do you plan to introduce peanut butter?
I have already. I'm of the "everything is ok except honey" camp.
For PB, I've only done a very small amount. I mix it in with his oatmeal. I plan to make PB muffins soon (hopefully this weekend) and give that to DS.
I've also done other nuts: pine nuts, almonds, and walnuts. Pine nuts was used in pesto and he's eaten the pesto.
For almonds and walnuts, I toast them first, and then pound it fine, almost like a paste (using the flat side of meat pounder). I then add it to his oatmeal.

LMAO
Had a spoon loaded on its way to my mouth as I typed this question
There isn't any sugar in the natural peanut butters...
We're still just working on getting her to eat solids at all. We've tried a bunch of different purees to varying degrees of success. I think this weekend we're going to try a little bit of BLW and just giving her table foods to see how she does. If that goes well, I might try some peanut butter on apple slices in a couple of weeks. Neither DH nor I have any history of allergies so I'm not too worried.
LOL!

I asked the same thing at O's 6 month appointment and he said a certain allergy is not inherited. He said either the child is going to have allergies or not. What s/he is allergic to is up to that child. Allergies are common on both sides. But the fact that O has a MPI, makes me worry about common allergies like peanut butter, egg, etc. The pedi also said waiting will not change the chance of an allergic reaction, studies just came out supporting it.
Probably not until around a year, I think. Even though he's ravenous for most purees, his teeth are slow to come in, so I haven't introduced him to much more than the "MumMum" brand chewing biscuits. Of course, these next few months will bring more teeth and more textured foods, but if he's like his sister, then probably not until a little after a year.
My parent-shame, is that I always forget how sensitive people can be to PB sandwiches, and I tend to pack them for DD when we're going on an adventure to the library or something. She'll be sitting there eating it in this very public, very kid-oriented place, and I'll think, "Crap!" And try to wash down all the surfaces she or I have touched while eating the forbidden sandwich. I'm a teacher so am usually pretty aware of allergies, but I always seem to space it with PB sandwiches for my DD. Stupid.
I'm with you on this one. I HATE peanut butter. DH on the other hand loves it, he could eat PB& J every night. I won't say never but peanut butter is not in the near future, there are so many other foods out there that I want DS to try, pb is not one of them.
