C-sections

Minimal PP bleeding?

I'm 16 days out from my C-section, and have never had the crazy bleeding that was talked about. The first 2 days in the hospital were pretty heavy, but I have never even filled a pad. I keep buying/wearing the long pads, expecting it to just hit, but nothing.

I did come very close to needing a transfusion during the c-section, so I'm wondering if that is the reason.

  • Either they did a really good job scraping you out, or its still coming. Do you see an increase in bleeding when you're more active?

  • My c/s was also 16 days ago and I too have minimal bleeding.  I've had a previous vaginal birth and previous c/s and had heavy bleeding with both (TMI but it was so much so fast that when I would stand blood would fall to the floor in the hospital).  This time around I've had mostly spotting, 1 day since being home it's been more than.  I'm also still wearing the long pads because I don't trust my body enough with a panty liner yet.

My bleeding was always like a normal period, no heavy times. It lasted between two and three weeks.

  • They vacuum you out during surgery (sorry for the visual!), so there is less PP bleeding than with a vaginal birth. I didn't have much bleeding after my c/s either.

With my 2nd c-section I had very little bleeding (just spotting but not soaking pads) at first. I thought something was wrong. Then at about 3-4 weeks PP I started in with much heavier bleeding that I actually called the OB because I was concerned. It last lasted about a week and a half and then I was done.

I have heard that they "suction" you out from a friend who never had any bleeding but with both of mine I had bleeding. We live in the same town but went to different hospitals.

This. I didn't have a bunch of bleeding last time because of this.

  • I filled a pad right after and then after that I was good.

  • I didn't have much either. I bled a lot in the hospital and had one huge bloodclot but after a few days home it stopped.

  • You ladies are so lucky....Mine just became light. I had LO 19 days ago. It was very heavy. I don't know if it had anything to do with me having a tubal litigation along with the c section.

  • Agree with pp. it's likely thy cleaned you out pretty good. I'm 15 days post and also have yet to fill a pad. I do have an increase in bleeding when I do more activities which dr says is normal. He did tell me if it gets heavy though to scale back and rest more.

  • Thanks ladies. I read over and over that even with a c-section I would bleed like crazy. One less thing to dwell on!
