Tylenol & two month vaccines

Anyone give their babies tylenol prior to their two month shots?  Was it recommended by your doc?  Thx

Re: Tylenol & two month vaccines

  • My ped said they prefer that we wait at least 6 hours before giving Tylenol because recent studies have indicated that giving it too soon after the immunization may decrease the immunization's effectiveness.

After DD got her shots, we came home and she sacked out. About the time that she woke up screaming and feverish, the six hours had passed. Shortly after we gave the Tylenol she fell back asleep for the night and was back to normal the next day.

This is what we were told as well. We waited until afterwards. Your pedi will tell you the right dosage.

My ped said the same thing. Gave one dose later in the day because she was inconsolable.

  • i hadn't heard about waiting but that's interesting! LO passed out for about that long anyway before giving him the tylenol. i'm curious why the doc didn't mention waiting... now i know for next time though!

i gave him 3 doses over 18 hrs to get him through the night but now he's been off of it for almost 12 hours and is doing great! shots are miserable to watch but a necessary evil. GL!

Also, I think they want to see IF your baby will have a reaction so you know for the future. If he/she is premedicated, or medicated right afterwards you don't even know if they had a reaction. Some babies are fine. My son has never gotten a fever and has only had minimal discomfort at the injection site, so I don't give him tylemol

This is what I was told.

My doctors office left us a reminder message about our 2 month vaccine.  They told us not to take tylenol before the appointment.  I believe this is so you can give the accurate dosage based on their current weight.  I held off on giving tylenol after the appointment because I too heard that it can decrease the effectiveness of the vaccine.  Not sure how true.
