Elusive sleep, where are you?!

Anyone else having trouble sleeping? I can only sleep about 3 hours and then I wake up to pee, but then can't go back to sleep due to hip pain... Can't lay on one side to long, then when I switch sides the other hip starts hurting after a bit. Not to mention I am up like every hour to pee. I thought we were supposed to be catching up on sleep BEFORE baby comes... Waaaah!! I am feeling grouchy in the mornings at work due to sleep deprivation. :o anyone else in the same boat? I still have 6 weeks to go.

Re: Elusive sleep, where are you?!

  • Yes this is me exactly. I am having lots of trouble sleeping. I'm either waking up to pee, because I'm uncomfortable, or waking up starving or thirsty. What also bothers me is how every single person that I talk to about being pregnant, (whether it's friends or patients at work, or strangers) they all tell me to "stock up on sleep now." And as soon as I tell them that I'm actually not sleeping much now, they all laugh and become instantly obnoxious. They all say how I should enjoy ANY sleep I get now, because I will be getting zero once baby girl arrives. But this irritates me. I'm not an idiot and I know that new parents don't sleep, but that doesn't make it any easier to function now on 3 hours a night. I'm still exhausted now.

I think we are ALL in the same boat unfortunately!/: My MW asked me today how I was sleeping and when I said barely at all she said it's completely normal. She said it is totally fine to take benadryl or unisom on occasion to get a good nights sleep and if it becomes a serious issue, interfering with daily activities, there are prescription sleeping aids they can safely prescribe. Maybe your OB/MW can offer some relief? Good luck!(:

    Yup. Me, all the way!!
  • Yep, another passenger on this boat! I'm allergic to Benadryl too. Go ahead and laugh, the doctors do. :D
  • Sleep? What is this sleep thing you speak of?  ;)

because it didn't fucking snow enough for me to build my own
  • Count me into the group. I am exhausted by 10pm, fall asleep by 11, and am up by 2am every night without fail. Always have to pee, then the nights I don't have heartburn I can at least rest a little more comfortably, while I lay awake with my headphones on, but the nights I have unforgiving heartburn I just toss and turn and guzzle milk. 7 more weeks!!!
  • I wonder if I will ever sleep through the night again.... How does so much liquid come out of me every few hours?!?!? Why does turning over in bed have to hurt and wake me up so much??? Sigh...

2012ames, it causes me to have nightmares of my mom. EVERY SINGLE TIME, never fails! As for PP and OP mentioning the no sleep with new born, I will add that that is my favorite moment with DD. not because she was "helpless or dependent" but because she was so tiny and little and it was one on one mommy and baby time. Yes, I was tired like a zombie through out the day but gah I miss those days. But! I will have them again soon enough.

  • I took bendryl last night because I am having some reaction causing a rash on my face. I wouldn't say I slept well I was just in a trance like state and still groogy when I woke up. Luckily, I didn't pee the bed because I didn't even get up to go to the bathroom but walking to bathroom in the morning was very painful.

  • Me too! 5 wks to go. One good thing about this getting up every 1 to 3 hrs is that it really does prepare you better for when the baby arrives. Seriously! With my first I learned that. But I still really miss my sleep!

Amen, and 6 weeks to go. I am lucky to get 2 or 3 hours of sleep at a stretch. At least when babies come, maybe someone can take a shift so I can sleep or maybe I will at least be able to get comfortable for more than an hour at a time. And I absolutely can't wait to sleep on my belly again!

  • I'm so tired I could cry legit just got on the bump to complain about that and see if any previous posts discussed ways to deal with the hip pain/ restless leg syndrome...35 weeks I have been sick but at least once I fell asleep I was fine, now I can't even fall asleep! Ugh ; and I totally agree that if another person says enjoy the sleep now I will scream! I feel like a person stuck in a whales body, I don't think I'm that big until I try to roll over or get up , it'd be funny if it wasn't so tiring...o well good luck ladies hope we all get some sleep tonight!

I hated when people used to say that to me! I used to think it's not like I can bank my sleep and use it later. Sleeping pregnant really sucks. I remember sleeping after my dd was born thinking at least I can get comfortable and zonk out immediately. Yeah it sucks not getting to decide when you sleep, but it's not like you'll never sleep again. That's how people like to make it sound to first time moms.

  • Last night was the first night in months where I didn't have a bathroom break. It was marvelous.
  • I have not slept well in a long time. I have had really bad insomnia. I either lay in bed awake till like 4 or 5 am with a million bathroom breaks. or I fall asleep around midnight and then wake up a million times to pee, and then can't sleep much past 4 or 5 am. I can't win. everything hurts, it gets to where laying on either side or my back is all painful. plus I get woken up by somewhat painful Braxton hicks that end in a cramp now. this has been happening for like two weeks, I get some during the day, but they are more intense and more often at night. fun fun. oh, I forgot my heartburn is still out of control, most nights I get acid reflux from it and it feels like my throat is on fire. just four weeks and one day left for me!!
