Sorry to post again so soon...My doctor called today to discuss my Ovarian Assessment Report and she said she's really happy with my numbers. FSH dropped to the normal range (well, the higher end at 9.65, but hey, I'll take it) and the only "off" number was AMH at 1.57. Not sure what "normal" is with AMH. My egg retrieval score was 11, when in August '12 it was 8 and only "fair."
So it sounds like maybe I have unexplained secondary infertility? RE says that going Follistim + IUI sounds like a great plan, and DH and I are on board and have been now for a while.
Questions (forgive me if I've asked them in another post): Has anyone had any positive outcomes using Follistim? Any negative side effects? Headaches/bloating/nausea, etc? And what about Ovidrel? How many trigger shots do I need? (Just one?) How soon after will IUI take place? Do I use OPK or CBEFM to check for ovulation? And do I temp while cycling?
I was really excited to hear my results, but now that makes nervous that I'll bee too optimistic going into the IUI. Why can't good news be celebrated with 2IF??
Re: Follistim and Ovidrel
I think I might have commented before, or maybe meant to and didn't, but it sounds like we are at a pretty similar spot in our treatment. I test in the next few days and if it's BFN, we are moving on to Follistim IUI.
I have a history of PCOS but have recently learned I have low AMH. Mine was 0.87. I was told my RE likes to see AMH over 1.0. I've seen various charts and graphs and it seems there's still a lot of disagreement about what's good/bad etc. Some say those numbers should be adjusted for age, some use blanket numbers for all age groups. I was told 1-3 was Normal, 0.9-0.7 Low Normal, 0.6-0.3 Low.
As far as the process, I'd expect frequent u/s monitoring and not opk's or temping. My RE does sometimes use opk's instead of a trigger on oral meds, but if you are on injects, I doubt they'll leave anything to chance. Our protocol is to do 4 rounds of blood work and u/s in the first 10-11 cycle days. When the u/s shows mature follicles and your E2 level is good, you trigger and the IUI is about 36 hours later. I haven't used follistim yet, but I've triggered twice and didn't have any significant side effects. Oh and you just trigger once. My RE also uses progesterone after IUI until you get BFN. It can give lots of pregnancy-like symptoms.
Good luck to you. I think you have every reason to be optimistic!
