Re: Progesterone Question!!!
Hi firstcomeslove! First of all, how exciting to be in your 2ww now and hoping for your baby! And yes, you can totally drive yourself nutty during this time.
I will share my experience (since you asked), though it may not be the same as yours. I have had my progesterone levels routinely tested for the last year both before and after pregnancy, so I have some experience with this (and people have had to read my gripes about endless progesterone suppositories that I have been on for 4 months - I thought I was done but now "tapering off" for the next week).
Anyway, whenever I had an IUI, they tested my progesterone level 5-7dpiui to check the level, which was usually somewhere between 35-40, when my body was actually ovulating. All this means is that you did in fact ovulate and your body is producing the correct amount of progesterone after ovulation to support a pregnancy. Unfortunately, it is not an early sign of pregnancy, it just means that your body is doing what it is supposed to after ovulation. I had great progesterone levels and each time was a BFN :-( It is still good news though to know that you did ovulate! (An OPK only tells you that you are about to ovulate.)
This time I got a BFP but my progesterone was dangerously low (13.4) because I did NOT ovulate on a regular cycle due to IVF and using a donor (my wife's) egg. So I still was able to get pregnant with low progesterone but I've had to take meds to get me up to the right level. I'm now at a 39! Yay! Which means that the placenta has taken over at this point and is producing enough progesterone to support baby.
Good luck - just know that you are healthy and that you are ovulating (that is half the battle) and that you are still totally in the game for a BFP. All the best!
