Getting married next month... oh dear.

Hi ladies! I'm 20 weeks along here and my fiance jumped to planning a whole wedding for us so I wouldn't have to stress about it while prego, and we could live happily ever after, blah blah.

No, I'm actually SO grateful that he's done all that. But of course, that means I have a bump to accomodate in my dress. :)

Has anyone here (not FTMs, obviously...) had a formal event or wedding or gotten married around 23-24 weeks? I got a dress that is ball gown cut at the natural waist, room to grow, but I am showing more than I want to be (odd thing--first I wanted my bump out and now I want it to slow down until after the wedding!) and am so afraid I'll grow too fast to fit later.

I'm hearing that growth in the 2nd tri is totaly individual and obviously uncontrollable. Is there no general rule of how much one might push out in 4 weeks time toward the end of the 2nd tri? My biggest fear is being too big to fit into the dress, of course!

Also: we just found out it's a boy! So excited!!

Congrats on the wedding and on joining team blue!
If you have your dress already I would take it to the tailor and see what they recommend if you will need more room.
An empire waist might make it lots easier too! I've seen some stunning preggo brides in an empire waited flowy dress!
    Good luck!!!

  • Congrats!

I'm not married yet, but our wedding is in August and I'll be 30 weeks! We had been planning the wedding for 7 months before I found I was pregnant, and already had my dress. I really didn't want to get another so I met with my moms best friend who is a seamstress and she's making some alterations so it will fit me in August. I suggest you do the same!

An empire waist is definitely a better option for you, especially if your bump is expanding! A lace up back is also really helpful. My dress was a zip up but my moms friend is changing it to a lace up to help accommodate the bump!

PM me if you need anymore help/advice! Good luck!!!

  • Congrats!! My advice would be to stop stressing and worrying, EMBRACE your bump and your gown.... take it out if you have to or sell it and find something that will fit your beautiful growing baby bump. You are showing off your beautiful bump while declaring your love, and how beautiful is that! I think pregnant brides are beautiful! Embrace it and have a wonderful day starting your new lives together as husband and wife and soon to be Mommy and Daddy!!

  • Since that's only 3-4 weeks away, whatever fits you now should fit you then, PROVIDED it isn't too snug or barely fits now. Yes, you grow each week, but just a little. It seems like a lot at first once you "pop", but from there on, my experience is that it's gradual.

  • Congratulations! I'm getting married next week as well at almost 22 weeks. I completely understand your situation with wanting to show at first but now wishing it would slow a bit, but I'm sure you're going to look great!!! : I'm actually going for the final fitting check two days before the ceremony, as it seems these last two weeks I've grown significantly. Would something like that be an option for your seamstress? I wish you the best of luck with a beautiful wedding and a safe and happy pregnancy!

ok this had me dying of laughter. I showed it to my husband and we laughed hysterically for like 5 mins! Thank u for this!!
  • I was 24 weeks with DD when I got married. I ordered my dress a couple sizes too big and then paid a bunch to get it sized at the last minute. I think I had the final fitting/adjustments a week or so before the wedding. I also had a dress with ruching at the waist so that it would be forgiving. As far as growth in the next 4 weeks, you're going to get a little bigger but I wouldn't expect anything extreme to happen. Best of luck with everything!
