Nanny weekend pay - help me calculate!

Hey ladies - my sister is getting married this weekend and my son is the ring bearer. Our nanny is coming with us to watch DS so DH and I can enjoy ourselves at the wedding. It is an evening affair so he will probably only stay for the first hour or so of the reception depending on his mood.

Im struggling with how much to pay our nanny. We pay her $15 an hour, if I calculate how many hours she will be with us from Fri-Sun (the wedding is 2.5 hours away) itll be like $1000! I adore our nanny but I dont think I should pay her for when she is sleeping, right?! Originally I was going to pay her $500 but I dont want to under pay her. I know that DH will go with whatever I say, but Im stuck.

What do you guys think? A flat amount? Calcuate how many hours she'll "really" be babysitting? Im stuck. TIA!

I assume that you are already covering her meals, room, and transportation.  As far as how much to pay, I think a flat fee is the way to go, and I'd base it on how many hours she'll be "working," how much she'll be "on call," if there is anything for her to do in the area when she isn't needed, etc.  Then be willing to be flexible and discuss if she didn't approach it in the same way.

This. I would pay a flat day rate and discuss prior to the trip so there is no confusion. Have fun!

  • Yes, we will be paying for her meals, room and transportation. I think that is what Ill do, Ill calculate how many hours she will definitely be "working" in addition to any time we will need her for child care "support" (like during the rehearsal dinner and brunch the morning after).

Im going to get DH's buy in tongiht then plan to speak with her about it tomorrow to make sure we are all on the same page.

    Thanks for weighing in ladies!

  • I agree with above posters - a flat rate based roughly on how many hours she will be working. Or pay her hourly for the hours she is actually either caring for him or providing back up care.  I don't think you are responsible for paying her when she is sleeping or when she has free time to herself.
