Hydro baby

I am expecting a baby in September but Will likely be delivered early due to my daughter being diagnosed with severe hydrocephalus. Just wondering if anyone is having or has had a hydro baby. I would love to hear your story, advice, etc!

Re: Hydro baby

  • I am lurking

I would get in touch with facebook groups in the hydro community.

My husbands coworker had a daughter born with very severe hydro, they did cord banking and infused in a trial at Duke university.

Their daughter is almost 5, a completely "normal kid" in regular classroom and an amazing success story to the hydro community.

I am sure their facebook community will be a great resource for you.

    Congrats on your baby girl!

  • Hey there. Both of my sons have hydro, though they acquired it after birth as a direct result of their prematurity brain bleeds. They were both shunted shortly after birth. 20 months later and Aiden is now walking. Ryan is struggling a bit and was diagnosed with cp but with therapy is making progress. We knew from the beginning that he would have a harder time on terms of development. I'm not sure what other info you're looking for, but feel free to ask questions or pm me. I blog about our journey with hydro see siggy. Good luck. I know it's scary, but it doesn't have to be. Our lives ate fairly normal at this point.

Sorry for format. I'm bumping from my phone and apparently it hates parentheses. :

  • Like pp, DD has posthemorrhagic hydro. In the NICU, her ventricular ratio went up to 48% but she still wasn't showing any signs of distress due to pressure so they kept a close eye on her and eventually it went down to 39% upon discharge. A month later we went for a checkup and it was 50% but she is still not showing signs of distress. Her neurosurgeon wanted to wait another month to see what happens (of course we will go in sooner if we notice any changes) but he is fairly certain she will need a shunt. We would have liked to avoid that but it is what it is and we most definitely want to prevent any further damage to her brain!
