Evaluation came back on brother

Talked to SIL and it sounds like the lawyer got the results on the mental health eval they did on my brother. It was ordered by family court but he hadn't complied. Since they had him in custody for some time after that they were able to hold him to it while in jail.

SIL can't have the full report but her lawyer does and he could read some to her. They diagnosed him with some type of narcissistic personality disorder, said he lacks empathy and have an overwhelming sense of entitlement. *Duh! I could have told them all of this!* (No one listens to HK)

It's sad, but it's good news that they actually saw what was going on. I was fairly certain it wouldn't be seen.

Anyone in a scenario like this? Currently, he will continue to have only supervised visitation allowed, and he has no one willing to supervise. Can we expect this to remain? They go back to court in another month.

  • It sounds like Borderline Personality Disorder. This is what our BM has and it has been described to us verbatim what you wrote above.

In our case, the court doesn't care until something physically happens to SS, so we just have to deal. (I cant for the life of me remember what happened with your brother! I suck I'm sorry!) . BM's mom has witnessed BM say and do some really mentally detrimental things to SS because of the BPD. She can be really cold and mean. When he was 2 she ripped up our family Christmas card with our picture on it with SS in her lap screaming about how we aren't his family. It was insane to do that in the first place, but to do it with a 2 year old on your lap and scream at him about it.... she's wacked.

BPD requires counseling. Lots of it. There's no pill or medication for it. The person has to recognize there is a problem and be willing to accept help in the form of continuous counseling. Our BM hasn't done counseling since her and DH divorced.

yep. BM here is diagnosed borderline and narcissist. And she goes to therapists all the time but quits and refuses to pay them once they tell her something she doesn't like.

My mother is narcissistic among other things (bipolar, depression, hypochondriac, munchausen by proxy, oh and a know it all).  It is not easy to deal with.  I sought counselling to learn how to handle her and stand up for myself when it comes to her.  Being raised by her while my dad travelled a lot for work meant I didn't know that her behavior was odd.  I thought all adults were like her.  I suggest that if he is allowed visits with the kid(s) unsupervised or not, they attend counselling to learn how to be around him.  It has taken me many years and talks with my dad to know the full extent of how bad my mom is, but I still turned out okay (I think at least).

Yup, this is him. His lawyer tried to convince my dad to handle the visitation supervision stating, "but he's going to counseling now". Ya, we've heard that before.

Yes, this is an important tool I'll be sure to ask about next time. I know they have all sorts of professionals to work with regularly, but I'm not sure of one particular counselor to meet with regularly.

  • Sounds like our BM but she only goes to the therapy bc it's ordered for her to go to get her pills. It doesn't help her at all.
