Does anyone give 5 ounces at a time? That's what the pediatrician is suggesting to decrease gas and get longer stretches of sleep at night. Currently LO (11 weeks old) gets seven 4 oz. bottles per day (2 of which are given overnight) and she wants us to try six 5 oz. bottles, giving only 1 overnight. But we make bottles using room temperature water, so should I make 6 oz. bottles, and then pour 1 oz. into a separate bottle in the fridge and then the next time add it to a 4 oz. bottle so we're not giving him an entire bottle of cold formula? Not sure if that will be too confusing for the daycare. So I was thinking maybe make up a 4 oz. bottle, keep it in the fridge during the day, and then with each new room temp 4 oz. bottle just add 1 oz. from fridge to it.
Anyway, just wondering what everyone else does...
Re: 5 oz. bottles of formula?
This....
My DD let us know when she was ready to switch to 5 oz rather than 4, by still acting hungry after feeding. Before that, she wouldn't take more than 4 if we offered it. Babies know when they're hungry and when they're full, and they let you know.
I give 3oz bottles because I breastfeed as well. I eye the half scoop. I do not think a pinch more or less is going to make or break the baby.
What you can do which will be easier for the daycare is invest in a dispenser and measure out how much to give your little one and send that with bottles, I just bought one and I can say, I am kicking myself in the as$ for not buying it sooner.
This. You can make some formula ahead of time in a pitcher, but I find it more convenient to just mix the formal with 2 1/2 scoops.
