wont eat!

Hi ladies - I haven't posted in awhile.  DS is suddenly becoming so picky with food.  He is down in weight to 28%.  We started giving him an ensure once a day.  Was wondering if anyone else is dealing with this?  He was always a great eater/  Now he takes a few bites & spits most things out.  Any suggestions?  TIA :)

Re: wont eat!

  • The ped said between now and two they definately tend in this direction.  DS here will not eat meat any more.  I can still trick him some by burying chicken in sweet potato or something, but he really is very very picky.  I think for DS it's more teething.  Is your DS teething?  Hang in there!

  • A friend of mine has a picky 16 month-old DD, and what she's been doing to get her to eat fruit and veggies is bake them in to bread and scones. Her DD likes bread, so this worked for her. At one point, she also pureed meat or veggie pastes and put them on crackers, and her DD liked that too.

My DD isn't a picky eater, but there are days when she doesn't want to eat, and what we do is just put a pile of different things in front of her, and we find that she'll pick something. For her, sometimes it's just about variety. We can't eat the same supper two days in a row because she won't eat it the second day... LOL

  • Had our 15 mo appt yesterday and Maddy went down to the 30% but doctor said it was normal.  He suggested giving her a multivitamin (she is EXTREMELY picky and always has been), and he said its fine to still give her baby food since she still loves it.  I still plan on giving her a jar of veggies each day b/c she will not eat any veggies at all no matter how I hide them or prepare them.  It's very frustrating!

  • When are you giving the ensure? Our ped said that if Jackson is on a food strike, don't give it till bedtime. If he gets it in the morning, it could fill him up for the rest of the day. Also she said we could give him a multivitamin with iron. Oh and at this age to only expect them to eat one good meal a day. Good luck!
