Hi Ladies,
Thank you for all giving me advice many months ago on this for carriers for larger chested women. I think I've narrowed it down to the Bjorn, Beco Soliel, and the Ergo baby.
My concern with the Ergo baby is that you have to clasp it in the back, where with the bjorn it's in the front and the beco it's on the side.
I've heard that you want carriers more like the Beco and the Ergo b/c the baby's legs do not hang down, so it doesn't put pressure on the spine like the Bjorn.
All five of my nieces have been carried in the bjorn, and I love that they can be face forward (I belive the Beco allows that too).
Does anyone have any prows and/or cons for any of these three carriers?
Re: baby carrier Bjorn/Beco/Ergo
I don't know a single person who had the Bjorn and was happy with it. It's pretty horrible for baby, too.
We have an Ergo and love it. I've never had any problem buckling it.

If you are going with the Gemini, while you can have baby facing out, it still isn't technically recommended because it is bad for their spine. I had originally registered for the Gemini, but I changed it to the Soleil because the Soleil is of newer design, and it has some accessories that sound interesting. The Soleil is not designed to carry the baby facing out, but you can carry in front, on the hip or on the back. It is just like the Gemini in all other respects, from what I can tell. Just a thought!
The Ergo can be a front, hip or back carrier but no go on the facing out, which isn't recommended anyway.

As mentioned the Beco Gemini can be facing in or out, back, and side! We are also choosing this because of how versatile it is.

Oh good to know! Something I will have to look into. I was under the impression was they reach a certain age facing out is okay. Is that not the case?

I used a Bjorn with my first two with no issues or me or the baby.
Now before I post, I realize it is a different brand and will be biased, HOWEVER, the links in the article are credible unbiased links.

Its not a matter of "oh, it worked for me", it is a actual physical issue caused by FFing.
From what I understand, no matter what age it puts unnatural pressure on the spine and hip joints. I think it can also harm their neck and back due to unnatural positioning.
I really like my Ergo. It's really not hard to fasten; you can move the buckle up close to your neck when you use it on the front.
I don't find forward-facing carriers comfortable and would never spend money on one. They're just not comparable in usefulness. No one like them past 15 lb, whereas I still use the Ergo sometimes with my 2 year old.
Ergonomically, an Ergo or Beco is just plain better than the Bjorn.

Maybe, it is because my youngest is 6yo and they changed the design, but my kids' legs never dangled like that. I am not sure if it was because 1) I didn't wear them past a certain age, because they were too heavy, therefore their legs were more supported OR 2) the seat portion of the Bjorn was larger than what was shown in the illustrations.
But the true fact, albeit anecdotal, was that neither of my children suffered issues with hip dysplasia just as I said. I think there are variables to consider that were not discussed such as size of baby, proper fit, etc. And no, not all of the links were unbiased regarding the carriers. Most were from BOBA, aside from the Hip Dysplasia Institute.
Ok. And I assume the IHDI knows nothing too, right?
If you notice, I did credit the HDI. HOWEVER, they're findings were not specific to certain carriers, therefore it is left up to the discretion of the user.
I shared my experience, no more. I guess you can claim that my oldest two children were inadequately supported, however according to the illustrations presented in the links YOU posted, they were not. The fit was appropriate. Maybe, it is because the carrier is an older design...who knows. It is what it is.
Do you work for BOBA?
The Bjorn is exactly the same design as the IHDI shows.
And yup you got me, I must work for Boba because it couldn't be that I'm just not stupid enough to discredit actual scientific fact.
Working for the company in question is the only reason that would make sense to me as to why you are working so hard to disprove my personal experience with the Bjorn...as stated in my original post...like it or lump it.
You may disagree, but the OP asked for recommendations or experiences with the three different carriers listed. I gave my opinion based on my experience. I never claimed my experience to be anything but anecdotal, although I think you have overlooked that important detail in your rabid desire to push your opinion.
Frankly, I find people like you to be ridiculously annoying. Not because you don't have anything worthwhile to say, but the fact that you do it in such a way that it is difficult to lend any credibility to your words. It's obnoxious.
As far as the OP, I apologize for cluttering up your thread with this nonsense. Hope you can find a carrier that meets your needs, although I would definitely not recommend the Bjorn. It's a death trap.
Ok, I find opinions like yours idiotic. Right up there with, well I didn't use a seatbelt growing up so why should I use one now/use one on my kids? And along with claiming it was just anecdotal, you also said a couple times it was a FACT. Which just isn't true.
I used one on my 5 year old when she was just born because I didn't know any better. As soon as I was educated on the fact, I was grateful and stopped using it. I don't really care about your opinion that its all fine and dandy and did nothing to your kids, I dispute about the opinion that the carrier style IHDI does not approve of doesn't resemble the Bjorn at all, or the way your personal child was carried in it. It's not like your kid was special, by design the bjorn is a crotch dangler. Period. No hip support. If you only wear for a few minutes a day, no big deal. If you plan on wearing more than that, its an issue.
