who bought it/paid for it? just curious.

Re: if you have artwork/wall decorations in your work area/office

  • I guess I don't count, but I'm bored and answering just for the heck of it!  I teach, so obviously anything hanging in my work area was purchased by me.  The only thing the school really provides is basic furniture and textbooks.

  • I purchased art work that went on my walls. I now work from home so no art work needed. I didn't get anything too pricey, I get prints from Ikea and framed them.

Edit- my home office is decorated but not with the stuff I bought.

I bought all of mine.  The office purchased and hung artwork for the hallways and other common spaces, but very few offices get company-owned artwork.

I did.  I also pay for anything that's decorative outside the realm of neccessity.  Although I did get a pretty cool stapler and tape dispenser...;) But if I ever leave, these things come with me. The only art they pay for is in the common areas. I prefer it this way, because if they paid for it, they might think they have a say...and I have different tastes than my immediate group. They're very flowery and fru fru...I'm more clean lines and modern.

Company paid for everything.  I was instructed to go on www.art.com and pick stuff, including getting each piece framed.  I looked for inexpensive stuff and got everything pre-approved by the office manager first.  I also used a coupon code and did the cheapest possible frames.

If it is your personal office you pay for it yourself.  And of course take it with you when you leave.  It has to be tasteful and not offensive obviously.

  • I bought it, but they have to hang it. I think if I wanted a large bulletain board/white board, they'd pay for that, but pictures are my responsiblity. I have 4 framed pictures, a small accent table, lamp and a big fake orchid in my office; I paid for all of them.

  • They supply "generic" art, which I did not like, so I ordered a few prints myself.

Some people (in the more creative departments) have their offices all decked out, complete with vinyl quotes and lots of prints. They pay for it all themselves, but have said that they really enjoy the atmosphere it creates for their work space and it is worth it.

  • I bought everything for my office.  I actually originally bought the pictures for my home, but when I did some redecorating and they no longer worked at home, I decided they'd be perfect for my office.

  • Thanks all! I have always brought in my own decorative items like all the posters (aside from bulletin boards/dry erase & basic office supplies)...but one of my staff moved into a new office & asked if we could use some of our budget to buy prints/artwork. I thought that was a really odd request and said I didn't think so and she balked at buying it herself.  Part of me is thinking that it would be a nice gesture for me to buy an inexpensive print or two to go in that office (it is a shared office, not just hers)  but a friend of mine told me not to let myself be guilted lol!
