Hotel stay

We are going out of town this weekend and staying 1 night in the hotel. We have stayed in a hotel when LO was about 7.5 months old and it was sucky...it was probably due to the fact that he woke up with pink eye, and not because we were somewhere new.

But I am really nervous about staying somewhere new. Has anyone done it? How did it go? Any pointers? TIA!

Re: Hotel stay

  • We just did it a couple nights ago. She surprised us! We had her pack n play set up in a corner, her sound machine on full blast(ocean sound), and we put a comforter in the bottom so it was extra comfy! It took her a while to sleep bc we were right in the room, but she finally fell asleep and stayed that way. She even slept in. Just make it as close to what it's like at home as possible. Good luck!

Here is what we do. We put the pack n play in the bathroom, set up the white noise, turn out the lights and do full bed time routine just like at home, then shut the door. From that point on, if we need to use the restroom, we use the one in the hall. It works wonders to give the baby their own quiet sleeping space and then you don't have to worry about watching tv (on low), talking, eating, etc. in the main room. I don't know how people do it when they don't put the baby in the bathroom!
  • We just "stayed somewhere new" last week.  The "new" part doesn't bother Ian.  He'll sleep just about anywhere.  It's the "alone in a room" with "no disturbances" thing that gets him.  If I were going to stay in a hotel with him, I'd get a suite, or joining rooms so you can get out of the room while he's going to sleep/sleeping.

OMG, you're a genius!!! Seriously! I'm going to have to remember this for future reference if we end up having to stay in a hotel. We thought we were going to have to this trip but ended up being able to stay with my sister, but I was freaking thinking there's no way he's going to sleep...because I just put him to bed and he goes to sleep on his own.

Ha! We have taken lots of trips and it has worked for us every time. If we stay with family and don't have an adjoining bathroom, we even put her in the closet one time and shut the door (she has a noise machine that projects some light onto the ceiling). Separation is key to success, as far as we can tell!
  • Thank you for the advice, I would never of thought of trying this!

  • When we did it, the only challenge was getting DD to sleep with DH snoring in the same room... the other challenge was getting me to sleep with DH snoring in the same room... lol But DD did fine. She made a couple of sounds here and there, maybe woke up once for a few seconds, but overall, it wasn't too bad.
  • DS hated the PNP last time we went to a hotel.  We ended up nursing him down and letting him sleep with us.  Not the best nights' sleep, but he went down, stayed down and there were no tears.
