Well, I had my first appt over a month ago. Last night, my doctor called me to tell me my pap came back with mild to significant amounts of abnormal cells and that I need to go see a gynecologist oncologist. The reason it took so long to hear from her is because she resubmitted the sample. When she saw the report she didn't believe it because I have never had an abnormal pap and my last one was in June of 2012, not even a year ago. I didn't get much sleep last night and pretty much cried off and on. I will be having a colposcopy. Anyone ever have one or any experience with any of this? This is our first baby and she said the baby will be fine. I'm very scared and sad. Any advice is much appreciated. Sorry this is so long

It will be ok, won't effect the baby, and won't effect your ability to have children in the future. Don't worry!
Gardasil (if that's the one you had) only covers 4 strains that are responsible for 70% of abnormal cell/cancer cases, so it still could be HPV.
I had an abnormal pap when I was 17, and ended up getting a LEEP procedure before it was all said and done. It was scary, but here I am more than a decade later and I haven't had an abnormal test since that year.
I also had the vaccine and still contracted hpv from my DH. I had a colposcopy, and had paps every six months after. Since I had DS via CS oddly enough I have had totally normal results each time. My friend did have the procedure where they freeze the abnormal cells and that worked for her. I'm sure you will learn more soon about what can be done while prego, so try not to worry about what may be. I know it's difficult. You are in my prayers!
I've had abnormal paps for the last 2 years, and a colposcopy done every 3 months since April of 2011. The cells they keep finding are moderate dysplasia so they have just been monitoring me closely. My doctor hopes the cells will rid themselves once baby is born.
The colposcopy isn't a big deal.. Take Tylenol before you go and RELAX. Everything will be just fine.
I had the same thing a few years ago after my son was born. I had 2 abnormal pap smears. I got the colposcopy and everything was perfectly normal. My next Pap was normal again and has been since.
This. I have had a few abnormal paps that did turn out to be pre-cancerous lesions that had to be removed. Don't freak. Easier said than done; I know. I freaked out and cried the times I got this news, too. The point of paps is early detection. Women who get their paps on a regular basis almost always catch anything 'bad' before it gets to be untreatable. Also, since your last pap pre-pregnancy was normal, there is a good chance that being pregnant alone could have caused the abnormal results. Pregnancy changes your cervix and everything could go back to normal after you deliver. T & P for you. Keep us updated.
