After a couple good nights in a row, DD is back to barely sleeping again. This time she's not gassy, but instead she's acting starving, as if I don't feed her! She is EBF, and usually wants to nurse every hour. I had a reserve of pumped milk in the freezer, which she has gobbled up all of it in the last two days. She just isn't satisfied with my boobs, and I feel tapped out. She's constantly rooting, and a pacifier only kept her happy for five minutes.
I can't help but think this is related to her difficulty sleeping. Not only is she up most of the night, she also doesn't sleep much during the day! I spend so many hours rocking, bouncing, swaddling, etc. Last night I started trying to get her to sleep at 8pm. She didn't go down and stay down until 1:30am, and she only lasted 3 hours! Now I'm feeding yet again, and I'll probably spend another couple of hours trying to sleep again. My supply is tanking from the lack of sleep, it's a viscious cycle.
For the record, DD is making a TON of wet and dirty diapers, so she is not dehydrated or malnourished. She is also outgrowing clothes constantly and is getting super heavy. Her body must be getting what it needs, she's just hungry and sleepless! Help!!!!

Re: Sleeping issues= hunger?
She is probably going through a growth spurt. Don't worry- your boobs will adjust eventually and give her what she needs soon. The more you nurse her, the more it will tell your body to produce more. I completely hear you about the lack of sleep affecting your supply too. I notice a huge difference the next day after a particularly bad night of sleep.
As far as sleep goes, I am struggling as well. We have been having issues with barely sleeping for months now. He has some nights where he only wakes up 2-3 times but those nights are rare. We usually are up after every sleep cycle (45 minutes to an hour). I can't wait to start sleep training but I'd like to wait until closer to 6 months.
The only I thing I can suggest is to move up her bedtime. I have noticed is that DS is a lot easier to go down with a bedtime closer to 6:45-7. It makes me sad for when I go back to work but it is so much better for him. We no longer have the screaming fits about going down to sleep. Yes, we are still dealing with the wakeups but at least the intial put down is easier.
Hang in there hun, I know its exhausting!
