Detroit Babies

Henry Ford or St. Johns??

I am having my first baby and my OB/GYN is out of Henry Ford and St. Johns. Any recommendations? I would like to pick a hospital that has a good neonatal center just in case. I heard a horror story about a mom and baby ending up in separate hospitals.

TIA

Re: Henry Ford or St. Johns??

  • Congratulations!   Babies are a life changing experience!    When I was pregnant, I wanted to find a hospital that was close by, and I researched which ones had a better neo-natal unit.   I ended up delivering at Southfield Providence because they had an excellent maternity area.   The new Novi Providence hospital I heard is awesome for maternity care and infant care.   I would ask your OB what they recommend.

  • Who is your doctor? ?My OB delivered out of those two hospitals too. ?I picked St. John because they have great NICU.
  • I delivered at Henry Ford Wyandotte and loved it. The nurses and staff were great. I was induced at 35 wks 5 days. Luckily DD didn't have to be in a neonatal unit. If she would have she would have been shipped downtown. My sister delivered at St Johns and used the NICU. She hadn't expected this. The rooms are not as nice and are smaller than HF

How cool. what did you think of him? Did he deliver your DC?  DH isn't sure about him because he seems to rush the questions.

  • Yes, he delivered my son. ?I had an elective induction. ?I liked Dr. Q, but I never really had any questions for him. ?I saw both White and Messina too and I liked both of them.

    Thanks a million.

  • My OB is also through Henry Ford, as is my health plan, so I'll be out of there. Keep in mind, too, that the Henry Ford is going to be opening this awesome new hospital in West Bloomfield in March 2009. They hired this guy from the Ritz Carlton to oversee the project, they're going to have gourmet food (organic and grown on site or something like that), sofa beds in the rooms for family members, and I believe jacuzzis in the new OB rooms. Here's the web site for more info: https://henryfordwestbloomfield.com

That sounds fantastic!! I checked with my OB and he only delivers out of the Clinton Twp Henry Ford! Too bad but thanks a ton.

  • I also had the choice and I choice St Johns Main on Maross.  They have a great NICU if needed.  I went there on the basis of just in case well guess what, that is what happened, my DS needed the special care nersury and the NICU.  It wasn't for very long buthe still needed it.  I always wanted to go to st johns macomb because that is where i was born when it was south macomb but I am glad i decided to go with what i knew was best.  I think, if I remember correctly that they are one of the few level 4 neo's around here.  Others are high levels but st johns is one and Henry ford is not. Don't quote me because it has been 3 years since I loked in to it but that is what I had read.  Hope that helps
