3rd Trimester

Shoes...

We planned a trip to Nashville for the CMA fest over a year ago, not knowing I'd be pregnant now. It's going to be pretty hot and involve lots of walking so I'm wondering if any of you have recommendations on good shoes to wear. I'm looking for specifics like the brand and style. I would normally just wear my leather flip flops but I obviously need a little more support now. Thanks!

Re: Shoes...

  • On days where I am going to be doing a lot of walking I have been wearing my Sperry's, since they have pretty good arch support (as opposed to my typical flip flops).  I wore them all day on Sunday and my back didn't bother me at all after walking a lot more than usual.  I would recommend anything with good arch support, I couldn't believe what a difference it made.

  • I'm 38 weeks and I've been living in my TOMS classics. I loved them before I was pregnant, but I love them even more now. There is support, but they are lightweight and breathe well and my feet don't get super hot.

I wore them to the Tiger's game Saturday. I walked and was on my feet a good portion of the day. My feet felt fine...or as fine as a very pregnant woman's feet can feel after being outside on her feet all day.
  • YES to Toms. Lifesavers... And also loving my Sanuk flip flops (made out of yoga mats), when its hot. They are so comfortable.

I have a couple pairs of Born sandals (they're all over Marshalls and TJ Maxx if you have those in your area).  Right now, they're the only shoes my swollen feet can get into!  Clarks is another great brand for comfortable walking sandals, but IMO they tend to run wide and can look dangerously old-ladyish.

ETA: Whatever you do, don't spend tons of money if your feet are swollen (like mine).  Marshalls and TJ Maxx all the way!

  • I love Birkenstocks - it's the only sandal I can wear (I have arthritis in my feet).  Now they have a bunch of super cute style too for summer & they're going to be on QVC 3x during the day tomorrow (check the site) - so I know they'll have some great deals.  I bet you could get a pair for ~$60 - & they last a LONG time...

  • Not overly fashionable, but I would go with a good athletic sandal - Nike or Merrel or something. I have a pair of Merrels that I wear everywhere.

Last time round, when we went for our childbirth class, the nurse recommended not wearing flip flops or crocs. Because they provide no support, and your tendons are all relaxing, it can cause your arches to fall or your feet to get bigger.

Up until now I've been wearing sneakers with arch supports in them.... But it's still been cold up here. ;)

  • I found I can wear whatever I shoes I want (except flip flops or really high heels) if I just add arch support to them. Buy some inserts from like Walmart or Target and wear whatever shoes you want.
