NBR a new sock trend?

We have a 15 year old who comes over to play with the baby a few afternoons a week. For the past two weeks she's been coming over and I have notice when she takes her shoes off, she is never wearing matching socks. I don't mean one black and one navy and they just got folded together by mistake, I mean one orange sock and one green with fish, or one purple and one red with hearts.

Is this a new thing? Am I so old that I don't get the new trends? I feel so out of the loop!

Re: NBR a new sock trend?

  • I live in Southern California and my cousin's daughter has been doing this for about a year now. Its the newest trend for jr high/high school girls... I dont get it at all, but im sure my mom didnt get my fashion choices either. Just makes me wonder what its going to be like when our LO's grow up.

you know this probably started off with some unruly teenager who couldn't find the pair to his/her socks right? I swear the dryer eats socks.

There is actually a shoe store in Commerce, GA that sells packs if socks that all do not match.
  • It must be today's version of what we did in elementary school (wear 2 pairs of neon socks, but have alternating colors on each foot, so one foot is, say, pink/green, and the other is green/pink)!

  • I teach at a school where the students wear uniforms, and the girls are constantly getting violations for their socks!

Totally hijacking to insert- I loathe the tennis shoes with interior wedges.

really? I may not be hip with the hop with that generation, but by all means, just take thos shiz off. they dont look cute on anyone! I don't care if selena gomez wears them, you look ridiculous!

  • All my fiances nieces do this. I guess there could be a worse trend.
  • Yep, my 6th grade students are doing this. All kinds of cute, colorful socks. Definitely a better trend than some of the other ones that they try to get away with.

  • Yup it's a new thing.  I coach high school cheerleading and first noticed it this fall.
  • My nieces do this intentionally. I don't get it.
  • Weird, I've never noticed this but it sounds intentional. Things like this make me glad I grew up in the 90's :) Sounds like a silly trend and one I would not participate in. This reminds me though, that my friends sister picks out special socks during labor. For her second she had on thigh high black socks. She said she didn't feel like shaving anyway at that point and she wanted something sassy to cover her her legs. I may do that.

  • My eldest is in 7th grade it does depend on her outfit but yes she wear mismatch sock. I even got her the socks that are all different like neon animal print.

  • My nieces do this. I'd probably be all over this new trend if I weren't an old hag!

  • I do this lol. Same sock but different colors. One because socks are arseholes and never match after washing and two I think it's fun and my kids love it lol.
  • DD does this...mostly because the sock gnomes come along a take the matches. Though she will often at least try to match the princess on them or main color.
  • this is awesome news. my toddler is so trendy! she has like 50 pair of pink socks and I can never find a match. I swore the next kid would have one brand/color so they all go together.

  • I never wear matching socks.

As long as they are the same thickness I don't mind them being a different color.
