Eye irritation?

1 mo old DD seems to have a bit of an eye irritation, they don't appear to be red or blood shot at all. But they've been a little goopy and she woke up with a bunch of green crusties in one eye. I read that breast milk was good for pink eye, so I landed a few drops in each eye just in case. But any ideas what it'd be?

Re: Eye irritation?

  • Could be a clogged tear duct if it is only the one side. Use a warm wash cloth and gently wipe from inside out to remove Crusties. We had this last week. It cleared in a day or two.

  • Clogged duct: warm, soft cloth and rub the inside of the eye with an outward motion. Then rinse with water and breast milk. It happens!

im sure this is what it is. I called my pediatrician thinking my baby had an infection. He said that babies this young rarely had an infection and was sure it was a clogged duct. I put a warm cloth over it and rubbed from the side of the nose up to the inner corner of his eye. He said not to rub the opposite way. It was cleared up the same day :)

Yup, I called my ped about the same thing, except that V's goopy eye has been going on since he was 2 weeks old :( Poor baby still gets goopy eye all day long and wakes up with crusties :(

  • Our LO is almost 3 months and still has this. Could be a clogged duct. Our pedi has said not to worry unless the white of the eyes are red and irritated. Just wipe with warm damp cloth and massage the ducts inner corners of eyes.
