Spicy food?

Does your LO like spicy food?

DH likes spicy food and tosses a bit of spice in most things he cooks - not a LOT, but enough to make DS spit it out most of the time. I think it's more a reaction to a different flavor than his tongue getting burnt. He doesn't choke or anything, just makes his "yucky" face and spits it out.

Just curious if anyone has introduced spicier foods and how you've done it.

  • She's funny about particular spices.  She doesn't love garlic or anything "hot" (i.e. ground beef with taco seasoning), she spits it out.  But she LOVES teriyaki, which we introduced on a whim.

I just throw some frozen veggies in a skillet with a couple splashes of teriyaki sauce and then stir fry for a few minutes.  She gobbles that up, so you could give it a try!  We use Trader Joe's Island Teriyaki (I think that's what it's called), and it's sweeter than other Teriyaki sauces I've had.

  • Jack will eat things that are a little spicy. He really lets us know if its too much. "Too piecy mama! My need drink." Is usually what he says.

He and Liam both love Indian food especially curry.

  • I guess I'm just afraid of spicy... When DS started eating table food, we were living with my parents, and my mom uses ZERO spice, not even salt and pepper, when she cooks. So when DH came back and started cooking dinner, I was afraid of DS choking or something since I sometimes choke if things are too spicy.

I guess I should be more adventurous!

  • Loves it! If the food does not have a kick or flavor he is not interested.

  • My DS loves a little heat in his food. If something isn't seasoned and flavorful, he won't bother with it. He's a big fan of spicy curry, Spanish rice and my slow cooker Sriracha chicken. Oh, and these sweet heat Jalapeo chips that DH loves. He pants while eating them! So funny. We also introduced spice right away by simply not changing up what we were cooking for ourselves. For the most part, at least.
