I have been EPing but I've been decreasing my number of pumping sessions with plans to eventually stop. I'm only pumping twice a day. Currently I am still getting enough to cover what LO eats each day but can no longer add to my freezer stash. I expect my supply to keep decreasing with so few pumps.
My questions are:
1) how much formula is 'normal' at this age (3.5 months)?
2) is there any benefit to stretching out my freezer stash for as long as possible? I have about a month worth saved if I do just the frozen bm but I am wondering if it is better to do part bm and part formula for a longer time in terms of health benefits, (not getting LO used to formula)
3) if it is better to stretch out the bm, does anyone know a good ratio? Like 50/50 bm and formula?
TIA
Re: BF to FF questions
1. Henry takes about 4 to 6 oz per feeding. The larger bottles are in the evening and the smaller ones throughout the day.
2. I actually tried to stretch out my freezer stash, but we got to a point where he wouldn't take bm out of a bottle anymore. Toward the very end he didn't care about the boob either. When I started the wean (I EBF) I knocked down one feeding a day, starting with the one at night, replacing that one with formula. Then I started nursing less and less and within three weeks we were exclusively FF. In that time I tried formula out of a bottle and he'd only take 2 oz and that was a chore. Finally I decided I didn't want to try forcing it anymore and gave my cousin the 36 oz I had left (her daughter is 5 days younger).
3. I never mixed bm and formula together. Like I said I dropped feedings and just introduced formula straight up. We never had a problem, though he's big on eating so I think he'd eat anything you gave him!!
Good luck!!
