Headaches...excedrin??

I suffered from migraines before getting pregnant but luckily they stopped when I stopped birth control. I'm 10 weeks now and had my first one Saturday. It was late and I was searching for Somehing to take. I knew Tylenol was safe but didn't have any. I checked the sheet the doctor gave me and it listed that Tylenol ad excedrin migraine was OK to take. I had the excedrin so took it Saturday and then again today. But after reading online it sounds like that is not a good idea??? Anyone have any other experience or advice on this?

If your doctor says it's ok, listen to them.

  • I  gave my excedrin away after I found out I was pregnant. My MIL is nurse practitioner and she told me Tylenol only, so until I hear otherwise from my doctor, everything else is out.

  • Excedrin is absolutely not okay to take during pregnancy. It contains aspirin.

    Stick to Tylenol.

I used to take aspirin for something else pre-pregnancy and Excedrin ES was my go-to for headaches/migraines.  However because of the aspirin, like everyone else is saying, it's a bad idea.  However, and I know caffeine is bad, too, but taking a tylenol with a cup of coffee or something with a decent amount of caffeine in it will help a headache/migraine a LOT.  That's what I've been doing since getting pregnant and it's helped dull the pain at least enough to function.

  • my doc said tylenol only !! nothing else .. but would talk to your doc about the migraines he/she may be able to give u something to help with them ..

My doc said Tylenol w a cup of coffee, so that gives you what's in exedrin without the aspirin. Now I just have a cup of coffe though, bc that is what helps my migraines... The Tylenol does nothing.

  • I just called the doctor to double check and they confirmed it is fine to take sometimes I think the Internet is terrible! Always scares me more! I'm going to ignore it and trust my doctor!

A rational person who trusts her OB more than the Internet... I heart you!

  • I have a list of meds from my doc that said what is ok and excedrin is not one of them but I guess to each their own.
  • I have suffered from migraines since a car accident in '09 and get them even worse now.  I asked if excedrin was safe and was told not to take it.  Tylenol was the only one my OB said I can take.
