Anyone have a healthy kid in daycare?

I have to go back to work on Tuesday. I see so many posts about babies in daycare being sick. I know that she will eventually get sick but I just envision that I'm sending her into some kind of germ den.

She'll be there 3 days a week with up to five other babies under age 2. Are there any moms who have babies in DC that are doing well?

  • DD has been in for a month and a half and has yet to be sick.  She's in a room of all babies.

I think it's a good time of year for them to start.

  • DS has been in daycare since the beginning of April and was only sick his first week. He came down with a cold the day before he started----so it was not daycare related at all. Otherwise, he has been a healthy happy baby and loves going there.

You all have made me feel a lot better. Thank you!

  • I think some kids are more susceptible to sickness than others. I had terrible allergies as a kid and my DS seems to have inherited that from me. Sad As I said in my post, I don't think my DC is to blame for him getting sick.

DS went into d/c at 6 weeks, at about 4 weeks he caught a cold and it lasted for about 5 weeks...I think he got rid of it and got it again because one of the little girls at d/c had a cold too. But since then he is doing awesome. Personally I think d/c is good, it exposes a certain amount of germs to them...imagine if a baby was never exposed to a germ and then got really really sick. It's their way of building up their immunity. Germs are everywhere. I assume your daughter is getting her vaccinations.

She's up-to-date on everything but I'm a complete, paranoid germophobe who is terrified that my poor, perfect baby is going to be sick and miserable.  I know it's actually good for her to get a cold now and again but it still scares me.  She had a fever for two days after her 4-months shots and I was a wreck even though she was acting completely fine.

DS has been in daycare/school full time since he was 4 months old and hes gotten sick maybe 4 or 5 times in 7 years. Not bad if you ask me.

  • DD1 gets sick about once a month. She's been in daycare since she was a year old or for about 10 months.

Dd2, while not in daycare yet, has only gotten sick from her sister a few times.
  • DS has been at daycare for a month now-- he has had some congestion and a little cough, but no fevers or acting/seeming sick. His congestion could also be allergies so I'm not sure if it's actually daycare-related or not.

  • DS went to daycare for a month when my schedule changed temporarily.  He got a mild cold and was congested for about three days.  DH and I, however, were sick for three weeks and I lost my voice because of it!
