Growth Spurt or Teething? Or Both???

Mobile: Growth Spurt or Teething? Or Both???

So, for the last 3 days, B has been all about 3 things- sleeping, eating, and screaming...

He has been sleeping at least 10 (but closer to 12) hours at night, essentially uninterrupted (this one I don't mind, lol!). But then during the day, he is taking these huge long naps- at least 2 hours at a shot and at least 4 of them a day. If he's awake he is either eating or crying, and wants to be held constantly (usually only by me). My normally incredibly good natured boy has been replaced by the super crank!

He is also eating more than normal- usually he takes 5 oz every 4-5 hours, and he has been wanting 6+ every 3 hours during the day. I should also mention he gets a small amount (like a tablespoon) of rice cereal in every other bottle per his pedi for reflux.

I'm not sure if this is a growth spurt or what, but man alive this is craziness! The screaming until he falls back to sleep is getting really hard on both me and DH.

Can any of you shed some light on this???  Also, for those on mobile, DS will be 15 weeks tomorrow. TIA!

It sounds more like a growth spurt to me. From my experience, DD eats less when she is teething and her sleep suffers as well. I hope it's short lived for you, except for the good sleeping part!

    This exactly!

  • Sounds like growing.

For us growth spurts present either with a lack of sleep or a ton of sleep [usually lack], eating a ton and fussiness.

Teething is hands and everything else getting shoved in the mouth, intermittent fussiness for no apparent reason, and eventually head thrashing and throwing himself about as it actually cuts.

So I'm voting growing for your lo, especially bc your lo isnt even four months. Teeth can come in that early, but it isn't common.

B is definitely doing this, too! Well, minus the head thrashing, as nothing has cut... I thought it was early for teething, too, but the huge increase in drool output, and always having his fists- or anything for that matter- in his mouth made me question myself...

     Thanks so much ladies!

Becoming a drool fountain is a normal developmental thing at that age. As is figuring out how to get hands into the mouth.

  • DD went through similar phases.  I hope your experiences will be short-lived as ours was.
