Car seats?

What second car seat did you get for your Lo's? Jackson is going to grow out of his car seat in length before he does weight and I want to start my research now! On amazon the Graco 3 in 1 Matrix has a 4.5 out of 5 rating with 1650 reviews. I just wanted to get your opinion.

Re: Car seats?

  • Can you look at one in a store and practice doing the basic moves with it (buckling, unbuckling, adjusting the straps, etc...)?  I ask as our Graco MyRide 65 has a super hard to buckle crotch buckle.  If you have weak hands, it'll be a no-go.  I'm not a fan of the seat RFing and we haven't moved it to FFing yet.  If Chicco's convertible had been out when we needed this one, we would have gotten it. We pph loved our Keyfit 30.

  • We have the Safety 1st complete air 65 for my SUV and the guide 65 for DHs car. Rear facing to 40 lbs was important to us. The complete air has been great, very easy to get DS in and out of....even when I was 9 months pregnant. It's a bigger seat and DS isn't squished RF.

I really liked the Guide 65 when DS was smaller. It is a little tricky getting him in and out since there isn't as much room. The latch connectors aren't as nice on it as the complete air.

Both seats fit in our cars RF without needing to scoot up the seats in front of them. I have a Santa Fe DH has a 3 series BMW.

  • We had the True Fit, which I loved, but DS was on pace to outgrow the 35 lb RF weight limit before he turned 2, so we sold it and replaced it with the Radian RXT. To be honest, although I do like the Radian (and its 45 lb RF limit), I liked the True Fit better. The harness straps were easier to adjust, and it was easier to get DS in and out of it because the harness straps are connected in the back. I.e. when you pull on one side, you get plenty of slack to get the first arm through, then do the same thing on the other side and even out the slack. The TF is also super easy to install. The Radian was a major PITA. They both have RF rebound control, which was important to me, FWIW.

Bottom line, I would highly recommend the True Fit, unless you plan to keep LO RFing past 35 lbs, then I would go with the Radian.

Yes they do but I believe the Symphony, Complete Air 65, Radian, Nextfit all have 40 inch RF limits which is a good thing. Look up RF vs FF on YouTube. I plan on keeping the boys RF as long as possible.

FWIW I was going to get a symphony, but I won DSs seat. : Good choice.

  • We've had the True Fit since birth and we're really happy with it. DS is a skinny thing so we're not worried about hitting the weight limit for another few months at the least he's 23M now.

We have the graco smart seat all in one that goes up to 100 lbs and into a booster. My DS is only six months too, but 99 for weight and we needed a RF that would last until his 1st bday.

We got it for half off bc the package had been opened accidentally by an employee the manager was not happy but she showed us how it worked and it's easy enough for me to use which is saying something.

Only drawback is that in our small compact car, it pushes our passenger seat forward enough that my DH prefers to stretch out his legs in back, so I'm upfront and alone :P
