Ice Water and heart burn?

All I wanted was a dang glass of ice water. Just one would suffice but no, after three sips heartburn has set in. I didnt eat anything earlier that would have caused this and the same thing happened this yesterday morning while I was at work. Just a few sips in and I am breathing fire.

Has this happened to anyone before or can someone supply me with a decent answer? I found something on drinking water causing/ making heartburn worse but it says nothing about ice water. I am fine if the water is room temp. Google has failed me.

  • My heartburn has ramped up, didn't think it was possible, since being pregnant. I drink iced milk to calm my heartburn. If you can't get past the ice in your milk, just milk will suffice. Lol. The ice just makes it extra extra cold. I'm actually drinking some right now. I joke with DH that if LO doesn't have hair when born...someone's paying for all this friggin heartburn! Lol.

I said the exact same thing! DD had a crap ton of hair and I thought I was going to die from heartburn with her, DS wasnt as bad, I am hoping that one of the boys is just pushing up making the reflux action worse when I shock him with cold water. Thats the only logical thing I can think of... I should say I just thought of. Ha

  • Yeah, i've never liked ice water until the past few months, but it does sometimes cause reflux.

Not me but my friend warned me that you get to a certain point where anything and everything will give you heartburn. Then another friend confirmed the same thing! I'm waiting for that glorious moment. So far only spicy food or something with tons of acid does it to me. But yea that's normal. Yay pregnancy.

  • I take Pepcid every day...ANY type of water gives me heartburn....

  • Both boyfriend and I were bald babies so maybe that explains the zero heartburn I've had. ... knocks on wood. Iced milk sounds delicious though, ice cream sounds even better though. Haha. Hope you feel better soon.

  • I'm glad I'm not the only person with this problem!  Ice cold water is something I crave all the time, but the colder it is, the worse the heartburn is!  DS had a head full of hair when he was born and my heartburn was out of control.  I'm hoping that it's not quite as bad with this baby, but who knows?!  I might have to start taking something soon.  Tums is really doing nothing for me and I lived on Pepcid during my last pregnancy!

That's my thing. It's ONLY ice water that does it. I can drink room temp water all day but if you throw a few cubes of ice in or if its cold out of the fridge I'm in heartburn hell.
  • BTDT :( Last night it finally went away after about an hour or so. It still sucks when all you want is a dang glass of ice water but you're afraid of it. Water-1 Jocelyn-0

    Thanks for the suggestion though.

I have the same problem with ice water. Other things give me heartburn but for some reason ice water really seems to trigger it. I've never liked room temp water though and unfortunately since getting pregnant my water HAS to be ice cold for me to drink it... so I guess I'm damned if I do, damned if I don't.

Since I can't let myself get dehydrated I just have to live off of Pepcid and Tums. I agree that baby girl better have a head full of hair for all this heartburn I've been having!
