Trouble TTC

IUI #1: Left ovary is getting disowned

Sooooo I had my follicle tracking today for our IUI tomorrow - I'm a total newb at this. My 'score' was great in some areas and pathetic in others. My lining was 10mm, which sounds lovely and plush. She mentioned that I had the layered effect that shows my estrogen levels were/are healthy. My right ovary had 3 'good sized' follicles - 15, 19, and 22. My left ovary didn't get the memo and pushed out a measly 9mm weakling. Not cool, lefty. So I got my hcg trigger and have had a nice increase in bloating and cramping, so it damn well better be working.

My (stupid) questions are as follows. Please forgive my ignorance.

 1. What I've read says the HCG will trigger ovulation in 24-36 hours. I got my shot shortly after 9am today and our IUI is booked for 12pm tomorrow. I'm a little worried that I will ovulate in 24 hours and it will be 'over' by noon. Am I being paranoid?

2. I've also read that the first IUI has the highest success rate. Is that just google-junk or is it true? I'm telling myself it's true either way, since I could use all the positive thinking I can get!

IUI veterans, I appreciate your advice and support!

DH 32yrs & healthy
*unexplained infertility*

Regularly access alternative medicine to supplement a lack of resources in our geographical area.
  • Three rounds of clomid (50mg days 3-7) were useless.
  • IUI#1 w/clomid & HCG in May 2013, BFN.
  • IUI#2 w/clomid & HCG on July 23rd. BFN.
  • IUI #3 in August cancelled last minute, due to lab error.
  • IVF#1 - Started Gonal F stims October 13 2013 for IUI. Over-responded with too many follicles, so converted to IVF. Retrieval October 29th - got 5 eggs, 4 fertilized. Had 2 perfect little embryos transferred on day 3 (Nov. 1). The remaining 2 didn't survive to freeze. Got our BFN on November 13th 2013.
  • IVF#2 - Started stims August 21st. Triggered with Suprefact, started on dostinex due to risk of OHSS. Retrieval September 5th - got 27 eggs! 21 embryos on day 3. Embryos deteriorated quickly. ESet 5day blast on Sept 10. No embryos high enough quality to freeze. BFN came Sept. 22.

Reserved a semi-known proven donor in August .

Waiting for consult/screening and protocols with estimated fresh cycle timing in October

  • 1.  Youl'll be fine.  Ovulation typically occurs 36 hours after the trigger and the egg typically survives for 12ish hours.

    2.  From the studies I have seen your best odds are  best for the first 3 IUIs, never heard that odds are best for the first IUI.
