Anyone have an MSPI baby and do a challenge test?

If so, how did you do it and how did it go? DS has been on Neocate for most of his life. He was diagnosed with milk protein intolerance early on, and we were told to not give any soy either since chances were he would also have a bad reaction to that. He just turned 11 months, and his GI nurse told us we could start introducing very small amounts of yogurt on a daily basis pretty much any time now. If after a week he's tolerating the yogurt fine, we can start giving him cottage cheese, cream cheese, etc. If that goes well we can give him cheese, and if that goes well she said she sees him having no problem with milk.

I'm so nervous to try this...and I also feel like we should try him out on soy stuff first since we really don't know for SURE he's got the soy allergy. I hate thinking I'm going to give him something he could be highly allergic to, and then just wait and see if he reacts. So I guess I'm curious who here went through this with their LO, in what order did you introduce things, and how did it go???

Thanks!

We inroduced a tablespoon of yo baby yogurt mixed with cereal and 13 month..we did that for a week.....Then 2 tbs. for a week and so on.  The pedi told us to start at 9 months but I was toooooooo nervous.  Good luck and I am sure it will go well

  • We started with small amounts of melted cheese in eggs. That went fine so then we did small amounts of yogurt. That was still fine so then I gave him straight cow's milk small amount. That seemed to be going fine until about Day four. Then he developed a very gnarly diaper rash but there were still no G.I. signs. I was told that milk is so acidic that when their bodies aren't used to it can cause bad diaper rash. I have backed off the milk but am still doing yogurt and cheese with no problems. I think I will just introduce the milk a bit more slowly.

  • DS was breasfed so I did it a little differently. At around 11 months I started having dairy or soy baked in foods, then around 12 months I started giving him dairly as an ingredient in foods, at 13 months I started giving him cheese mixed in foods, and at 14 months he got yogurt. We are still EBF and haven't tried cow's milk yet. I have given him soy as an ingredient and he has been fine with that also. He used to react if I would have soy sauce, but I had it this weekend and he has been fine... so far!

  • We went really, really slow.  I started like others with yogurt, but unfortunately my LO couldn't (and still can't) tolerate it.  Have you thought about going to see an allergist?  I took my LO and his tests came back negative, but he clearly reacts to dairy, so his is labeled an "intolerance" but it was helpful to know, especially when we started trialing foods.
