I did it!!

I just successfully walked my two big dogs and DS all by myself!!!

I put DS forward facing in my baby bjorn (for the first time) and walked each dog separately in front of the house. It went really well so I grabbed them both and off we went around the block!! I'm so proud of all of us!

Dutch has always been well behaved on walks, just needs a stern word every now and then if he gets excited. Nikolai (the notorious puller) was actually a LOT more gentle during the walk than ever before. He's always been very careful of DS so I should have known. Even so, I'm glad for my no-pull harnesses... just in case.

John had a great time. He was looking all over the place and laughed a couple times. Now he's telling me all about it, awwww. I look forward to many more walks in the future!

Re: I did it!!

  • I was definitely afraid to walk with DD and my dog for the first time but Ada seems to be far less interested in other dogs lately so it's been great.

That's awesome! Your dogs are so gorgeous. I love all of the photos you get of them with John. Our dog (10 year old Border Collie) is very well behaved but kind of a grumpy old man and I think DS makes a little too much noise for him. He is actually starting to not mind being around DS as much now though so I'm hoping at some point I can actually take a decent photo of them together. He loves playing ball and today he tried to take DS's O-Ball from him which I did get a quick photo of Smile

Thank you! I was a photo nut long long before John was born so my dogs are well versed in the art of being good for my photo craziness. Now John's a pro too, lol! I hope we'll see that O-Ball photo this HDBD! :)

I was worried about two dogs and a baby being too much for me, but it was way more manageable than I imagined! I have been feeling like a bad doggie mommy for so long... hence my uber excitement at today's accomplishment.

Other than a couple dogs barking at us through fences we didn't encounter any. THAT'S my big worry with walking on my own... and the big reason I have the no-pull harnesses. Other dogs are Dutch's big downfall. He is friendly once he gets nose to nose, but he pulls and barks as soon as he sees them... usually scaring them off (embarrassing). I have to have ALL my focus (and some cheese or sandwich meat) to keep him well behaved around other dogs while on leash... and I can't do that with Nikolai in the other hand and John on my tummy.

Congrats on taking everyone out!  I find every time I get all worked up about doing something for the first time, its never as bad as I thought! Glad it was the same for you.

Your baby bjorn...it's ok to face them out?  I thought it was bad on their hips?  Jack HATES being held inward so he currently hates the ergo.  If I could face him out in a carrier I think he'd love it.  But, I always thought it was bad for them.  Maybe I need a bjorn.

Baby Bjorn's are terrible for their hips:

Check out the angle of his hips while forward facing in the carrier . . . they are called "crotch danglers" for a reason.  Ergos and Bobas are the only carriers that I know of that have the right support to prevent hip issues.  Do not get a Bjorn.

I'd never heard of this. I got my Bjorn from a friend who is all about baby wearing, but her DD is nearly 3 years old now. I'll check out that link. Thanks!
