ok seriously!?

3 days in a row now I have had sciatic nerve pain. It was so bad last night I could barely walk. I tried a warm bath, heating pad, slept with a pillow between my legs and tried ice today. Ive also stretched and tried hip exercises on an exercise ball..does anyone else have any tips/tricks that have helped?

  • Chiropractor? I honestly don't know, but that's a bummer.

  • Sitting on a tennis ball? Chiropractor for sure, one that specializes in pregnancy.
  • I swear by the chiropractor. Previous back problems led me to believe I would have a horrible pregnancy since I had sciatic problems before. I haven't had any since first tri when I started seeing my chiro regularly. At this point though, if you don't have one already, I would search out someone who can deal with pregnant people often. My regular doctor could adjust me on my side, but my new doctor has a table she can manipulate so I can lay face down and it feels much nice and gets a better adjustment IMO.

All of this! Mine has a special table for pregnant women and has worked on several, including his pregnant wife, through all three of her pregnancies. If you don't have one, ask around and do some research. They're definitely life savers when you're in pain.

Ouch, I'm sorry. When mine flares up, I can hardly move. It was bad over the weekend again and I told H to remind me of this pain when I'm in labor, because the sharpness of sciatica is far worse than my contractions were with DD1, lol.

I agree with pp's that it may be time to see a chiro. Mine teds to go away after 2 to 3 days with stretching, walking, heat and resting on the opposite side of the pain. But if you're not getting relief, time to see a professional! Feel better.

  • My brother is a physical therapist, and he has me do what's called the piriformis stretch. It feels great! Google can show you how to do it.

I agree... Try to get in to see a chiropractor but in the meantime, try a heating pad and sit on the exercise ball for a while. I have been getting this on and off for 2 months and couldn't even get out the bath tub one night. Tylenol, heating pad, and exercise ball kept me same until I could see a doctor.
  • My PT said no heating pad, but rather ice. I've felt a lot better since I made the switch! And get some BioFreeze, it's awesome.

    This for sure.

A good chiro or massage therapist will likely have bio freeze which is like icy hot but not terrible for you.
