What did your newborn sleep in?

We had a bassinet for DD and we hated it.  It wasn't the best quality and we were ok with that thinking DD would only be in our room for a few months.  Boy were we wrong.  Towards her first birthday we had the pack and play in our bedroom.  She has been in her own room for almost a year now.

For the new baby I need to get something else.  This time I plan to have the new baby in it's room at 3 months.   I do not want to make the same mistake I did with DD.  We'll see.

What did your baby sleep in that you loved?  I have heard of the rock and play (is that really for sleeping?)  and the Arms Reach Co-Sleeper.  Would you recommend either of these or something else?  We do not want to use the pack and play for space issues in our bedroom.  Thanks.

Re: What did your newborn sleep in?

  • RNP. It was the ONLY thing she would sleep in as a newborn, I moved her to the crib at 2 months.

  • RNP here too. Lena slept in it for 7 months!
  • Honestly, her crib.

She was in a PNP in our room the first night and it was hell for everyone. She was in RNP like thing the second night and that was worse yet. By night 3 we'd all had it so I put her to bed in her crib. She stretched out and slept like a dream (and has been a good sleeper since).

But I have a created a monster. She's a crib only baby which is fine at home, but if we're away it's rough. She's not outgrowing it too fast 2 years later either..ha!

I tried having him in the crib from day 1. That worked for a few hours, LOL. We went out and bought the RNP. It honestly was a lifesaver for us. He slept in it until he was 3 months, then we transitioned to the crib. He slept better in that than anything else. I would highly recommend it.

  • We had an old bassinet, too, a family heirloom, and I would rather not use it this next time. We had to move him to his crib at about two months, and that meant a heck of a lot of getting up for me. I was hoping someone might weigh in on the co-sleeper, since that's what I'd really like to try.

  • We tried using the crib from day one with Cole. It didn't work. He slept in his swing (not always on) for months.

DD is the same way! As soon as she started sleeping in her crib, she got very picky about sleeping other places. Getting an extra mattress to go in the pack & play helped though.

DD slept in the bassinet for about 6 weeks, then the RNP til she was about 5 months old, then pack & play for a short time. We moved her into the crib right before she turned 6 months old.

  • DD1 did the newborn napper, then bassinet parts of the PNP,until moving to her crib.

The babies did RNPs,then moved to their cribs. I really liked the RNPs.
  • We did the Pack n' Play and she slept on the bassinet part, then eventually we moved it down and she moved to her crib around 6 months or so. I remember before she was born I went back and forth on this a lot. I was ultimately happy with the pack n' play, so I'm glad we went that route. I looked into the co-sleeper and RNP as well. I didn't like the RNP because of the weight limit, and there was some controversy in reviews about it being for sleeping (though I'm sure it's fine, as I know a ton of people who used it in the early months). The co-sleeper was just too expensive compared to the other options (like the PNP which still gets used occasionally). I also looked into getting one of these: https://www.amazon.com/Graco-Travel-Lite-Crib-Winslet/dp/B00AHVR6TK/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1369717883&sr=8-2&keywords=mini+pack+n+play It's basically like a small PNP, so that could be an option too.

DD slept in a cradle until she was 5 months old when we transitioned her to the crib.
