Em is a June 1 baby (didn't change groups since she was late) and we are having two parties, one for family and then one for her play group friends. I never even thought of party favours until we went to a friend's first birthday party yesterday!
I have 8-10 1 year olds coming on the 8th and have no idea what to do. I was joking yesterday that the theme for her birthday is "on a budget" because we have very very little money to spend. I have the food covered and a friend is doing the cake.
what can I get the babies that won't cost a lot of money but won't offend the other parents? It's already bothering me that I am having to cheap out on her party and I would like to give the kids something to take home.
Would it be tacky to send them with homemade treats? Is the dollar store appropriate?
Suggestions please!
Re: Help please!
I say, don't worry about "keeping up with the Jonses." If someone is offended, that's their issue, not yours. If you are on a budget, stay on your budget. The children won't even realize they didn't get a party favor and, if the parents criticize you for not giving something, they are really shallow.
As a society, we really need to move away from "gimme, gimme, gimme" and start getting in touch with what is truly important. Celebrate a year of your beautiful child's life and that is it. Little trinkets that will be forgotten about in a day mean nothing.
Thanks ladies
I will just bake some homemade treats suitable for babies.
I wasn't expecting such a huge party yesterday and when all the other moms started talking about how much they were spending I started to feel bad. All I originally planned was a small play date. I was going to make cupcakes and put out some cheese and crackers and that was about it. I am going to stick to my plan.
it never occurred to me to spend more than $50 on a 1st birthday until yesterday.
We just do family but that's still 10 kids, for Lucas's we did home made cookies bone shaped to match hos theme in a reusable snack bag that were 3 for 1 at target!
