doc number

When i was pregnant with my DD, my doc gave me his phone number. I could call him when i was in labor or if i had any issues. I never did need to call him, bc unfortunately he was on emergency leave when i delivered my DD.

With my DS and this baby, i have a different doctor. She is a very busy doctor. She never gave me her number, so i couldnt call her when i was in labor. Unfortunately, she didnt deliver DS bc when the hospital called her, she was in the shower, and i had him before she was able to arrive.

So im curious, do you ladies have your doctor's phone numbers?

Re: doc number

  • Nope. I have a number to an after hours service and then my dr or one of the other 2 in her practice call me back.

I only had to use it once with Ds. When my water broke. My dr called me within 5 minutes and told me to head into LD. They gave me the info at my 28 week appt both times. It's on a cute little magnet with early labor info on it.
     DS1 8/2011. DS2 8/2013.

  • Not her direct number. I have to call the after hour service to get in touch with her.

  • Nope, the doctor on call at the hospital will deliver my baby. I dislike this, but its how it works here.

  • Nope. I don't even have to call his office. I go to my birthing center, and they call him (or call him when I call and say I'm on my way). He (and the 3 other OB's in the practice) come in whether they are on call or not. It's one of the things they are known for. :)

We didn't have a direct line to the doctors cell phone for example, but were told to just call the office.  They have an answering service, and a nurse on call.  Since my practice has 4 OB's, one is always on call, and that will be the one to deliver.

I got lucky my first time- I ended up with an emergency CS after 36 hours of Labor, and I hadn't ever met the doc from the practice that did the surgery.  She was fantastic, and all the nurses commented for months about how small and well done my surgery incision was.  Couldn't have been happier, unless I didn't have to go that route.  :)

Good to know. I dont need to call for anything. I was just curious bc it would of been nice to give my doc the heads up that i was in labor with DS. But nobody expected my labor to go as fast as it did. Especially my doctor.
  • I have my midwife's direct cell number if I need anything.
  • No I have the on call number.

  • Not as of yet. However, there are 3 doctors at the practice I go to and they made sure to have me meet the other 2 in case they delivered. I have no idea who to call, I should probably bring that up at my next appointment!

  • If I call my dr after hours, the emergency line will get in contact with him. They actually told me the last time I called that if I didn't get a call back from him within 15 minutes, to call then back. My ob usually calls back within 5. He's pretty awesome.

  • As in personal number?  No, and I wouldn't want it either.  I have an after hours line and my call gets triaged to the OB in my practice that is actually on the hospital floor and can do something right then.

I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929

  • I have her number but she gave it to me to call and discuss a mutual patient. For my personal ossues I always just call the office.

  • Nope.  I have the hospital's L&D number which is who we call if there are any questions or concerns, unless it's non urgent then I just call the office.

  • I don't, but my doula has his cell phone number. They work together quite often, as my doula steers a lot of her patients to him when they have a doctor who isn't as on board with unmedicated/low-intervention births as he is.

  • If you call the practice after business hours, the answering service will pick up.  They will ask you why you are calling and page the on call Dr.  I've only had to call two times in 5 pregnancies, and they called back within 10 minutes each time.
