Convertible car seat ?

I really want the foonf  but its just not in the budget .  I am driving to California in about 3 weeks from Nebraska and then will be driving back to Nebraska 6 weeks later . I want a good car seat , last time I had to buy convertible car seats was 5+ years ago and the recommended age was still 1 for rear facing . Help please . Thanks .

    We have the My Graco Ride 70 and DD rides fine in it.  We drove 24 hours (round trip) one weekend and she seemed fine in it.  We're driving to the beach which is 20 hours one way and she'll be sitting in it as well - but she is a really good traveler so not sure if that plays a role into it.

    I would get the my ride (tall shell, easy install, good seat, high RFing weight limit, reasonably priced) & pay a certified carseat technician to double check the installation ($15 or so).
