24 months vs 2T?

Is there a difference? DD is in 18 months now but I am starting to look ahead and some one told me to skip to 2Ts.. Something about the 24 months shirts will fit but not the pants..? Thoughts? TIA and happy weekend!

2T is usually a bit longer, sometimes the waist is thinner but generally they are the same. I used 24m and 2T interchangeably. I know Target's 2T and 24m are exactly the same. When I worked at Gymboree, their sizing was a tad different.

Once DD2 grew into one, she could wear the other. Not so much with DD1, she was a little pudge

I found 2t to be a little thinner than 24 month.

interesting... Someone told me the exact opposite. I've been trying to figure out the difference too, but from the sounds of it I just need to see how DS ends up fitting in to them. I'll buy both and see what fits best. DS is slim though so I wonder if 2T will be best.

I found this to be true, also. I do think the 2ts may be a little longer in length, but not a ton.

I always thought the same about the diapers too.

However, on my perfectly average kid I rarely notice the difference, so I just go interchangeably. I do feel sometimes that the 24 months shirts are a little shorter but it could also be the brand or my laundry habits so I can't say for sure.

It took me a while to crack the code, but 24 mo clothes are meant to fit 18-24 (loke 3 mo clothes are 0-3 and 6 mo are 3-6) and 2T are meant for 24-36 mo, 3T are 36-48, etc (although stuff is rarely that perfectly aligned IME).

I don't find them to be the same at all. To me 24 months is for 18 to 24 month olds whereas 2t is for age 2 and up. Obviously, every kid is different.

Agreed. Check the size chart for any particular brand. My DD wore 24 month and 2T clothes as two distinct sizes.

DD is tall and thin. She went from 18 months to 2t. She stayed in 18 months until she turned 2. All the 24 month clothes I bought fell right off her butt and i had to donate them all.

It really depends on her height and weight. LO is on the taller side but always been in the 50% for weight. IMO, 24 months fit her better in some brands, but 2t is fine in others. In pants/shorts, she is still in 18-24 months, except for stretch pants, she can wear size 2T, but they are kind of long on here.

2T is just slightly bigger than 24 months. I'd just buy 2T she'll grow into it either way GL!

we haven't had her height and weight taken in a few months, but she last was 97% in height and 50% in weight.

We are going to a big consignment sale this next weekend.. Hopefully I find some deals that fit, Lol!

There is a slight different between to the two. I have bought both at the same time for DS and it was really only after he was potty trained and in underwear that I noticed more of the difference. But honestly, it's not enough to even concern yourself about. That said, if you are choosing between a 24m and a 2t and you are only getting one, then I'd go with the 2t for slightly longer wear.
