What are your opinions on glider versus rocker? I'm a FTM and I'm thinking I'd love something that reclines in case I fall asleep in there...should this be a deal breaker?
I have a regular old wooden rocking chair. When he was tiny it was ok, but there have been many times over the last year when I really wished I had something that reclines and that was more comfortable that I could have slept in for various reasons. Everyone has their preferences but if you can find something that rocks and reclines I would do that.
We have both. The glider is in the nursery, and rarely gets used (usually if he's fussy and we have company or DH is trying to watch something). We have a rocker/recliner in the living room and that thing is amazing. I have slept many a night in that thing. Some nights DS only sleeps well on his belly, so he will sleep on my chest in the recliner.
We got a regular rocker/recliner and put it in the nursery. It has been great. We have rocked and slept in it more times than I can count. Once he outgrows needing to be rocked, it can go somewhere else in the house. I have many friends that regret getting a glider just because they aren't that versatile or very comfortable.

WE got a regular glider at a garage sale.. for the nursery.. the first few months I used the furniture in our media room right outside our bedroom and was never in the nursery. When we moved her to the nursery (around four months or so) - I started to HATE the glider. THen she got sick.. and needed to sleep upright and with her humidifier / vaporizer and I realized I made the wrong choice.
I researched and researched and finally got a dutailier off craigslist that reclines (these are expensive by the way) but I LOVE it and I checked with my super frugal g/f and she also spend full price for her dutailier and she loves it (on her 2nd kid now and still loves it and uses it for both daily)
Before DH and I got married we bought a rocking recliner that lays completely flat. We moved it into the nursery when I was pregnant with DS and it has been amazing. It was great when heartburn hit during pregnancy and I needed to sleep upright. It has been a comfy spot to nurse DS or to rock him when he's not feeling well, or just to snuggle and read books. We have slept in it together (which is really a no-no for co-sleeping, but our bed was much more unsafe). The only downside was that it was not easy to nurse DS when he was super tiny, because I needed to be more upright, but I'm still glad we have it instead of a glider.
I love my reclining swivel glider from Best Chairs brand, model called Benji. I got it at USA Baby after trying out lots of options in the store. It's super comfy and fits my DH and I well. (We are both 5'11" and some chairs were too short/small).
I let my husband convince me to buy a La-z-Boy chair for DS nursery and I was so opposed to it because I think generally they are ugly (the one we got is actually okay looking). It's a glider/recliner. While I did/do rock DS in it sometimes when he's fussy, I frequently recline it back to snuggle with him and when he was getting a morning bottle, I used the recliner every morning to feed him. I would never admit it to DH but I LOVE this chair.
We just bought a rocking recliner yesterday! We actually ended up getting one for the nursery and one for the living room because they are so comfortable. I wanted to make sure it would be something I would be comfortable in for long periods of time and it's a good piece of furniture so it will be something we can use outside of the nursery as well.
