My 1.8 year old has recently been covering her ears at certain things. It started with the vacuum (something she loved to do with me before), she would start screaming and even unplugged it on me. I suspected an infection, and I was right. However on re-check, Doc said it had cleared up, but she is still doing it. She has also been covering her ears at the sound of running water, car blinkers, and most music. She screams and says "No mommy, stop mommy!" Is she just being a stinker, or could there be a serious inner ear problem, and why wouldn't the doctor have seen this. Could it be a teething thing? I hate to keep taking her in to the doctor over and over. but it's starting to freak me out a bit.
Re: Sensitive ears?
That's weird. It could be behavioral, but it could also be an issue that she needs medical help for. I'd write down when it happens and what's going on when it happens. I'd also video her when it's happening, so you can show the video of her actual reaction to the doctor.
I can tell you that DS still has an issue with the vacuum. He was fine with it as a little baby, but once he hit about 6m, it's been a no go. His issue is that it scares him. He's fine with music, unless he doesn't like the music. If that's the case, he'll fuss until I change it. Part of me wonders if she's covering her ears because she doesn't like the music or because covering her ears is something she can control.
Is she acting in pain when she covers her ears? DS will cover and uncover his ears to see if thing sound different. Maybe she's doing that?
