Abnormal pap?

Hi ladies! Looking for some advice here. I had my 6 week check up and had my annual pap and just got a letter today saying it was abnormal. It says that it tested negative for highrisk HPV, but since it was abnormal, does that mean I have HPV? I've never had an abnormal pap before. I have no reason to think my husband has been unfaithful, but is there another way of contracting this? Just has me a little concerned.

    I think your results mean that your cervical cells are abnormal but it is not because of HPV.

    If it is HPV, it doesn't necessarily mean anyone's been unfaithful.  HPV can lie dormant for a while.  I had an abnormal pap that turned out to be HPV when I was engaged-it was from a drunken unprotected mistake multiple years before.  Hubby was a virgin before we were married and I hadn't that that many intimate relationships so I knew exactly where it came from. So if you or your husband have not been married that long-it could be from a relationship he or you had before you were together.  Or it might not be HPV just because you have abnormal cells.  I would ask doctor for more clarification.

    The exact same thing has happened to me 3 times now. It's abnormal but it's HPV negative. It doens't happen every year either...one year it's abnormal, the next it's not. It was abnormal when I was 8 weeks pregnant but at my 6 week postpartum it was normal. I asked the doctor about it and she said she is not concerned. She said one cell can make the person looking at it label it "abnormal". She told me that I keep testing HPV negative is a good thing. She hasn't seemed worry in several years now, so I'm not too concerned either.

    Thanks so much for your replies, ladies! I feel much more at ease. I have a doc appt in about a week and a half to have my iud placed, so I'll definitely talk to my ob about it then. Have a wonderful holiday weekend with your sweet babes!
