amniotic fluid level fluctuation @ 37weeks

I had my fluid checked a week ago at l&d, and it was at 17. Wednesday it was at 21 in the office, and just got home rom l&d today and it was at 5. This isnt sitting right with me. They didnt think it was concerning since i am technically in the "normal 5-20" range. I went in today for a serious drop in fetal movement. Apparently she went from head down, sunnyside up, to transverse and facing my back (which explains the drop in movements that I can actually feel) . My doc wasnt on call, and another office was subbing for my docs office, so i couldnt even talk to a doctor in my practice today. no one but the nurse and the u/s tech came in the room while i was there. The nurse told me to come back if less than 4 movements in an hour.. however in the 2.5 hrs i was there i only felt 6 movements. So im home now, but i dont know what to do. I cant get ahold of anyone at the office and dont know if i should be this concerned or just take their word for it at l&d. This is my 5th, so i feel stupid going back to l&d. im drinking a TON of water and taking it easy on my left side as much as possible. I just dont feel right. anyone have any thoughts on this?

  • If this is your 5th baby and something doesn't feel right, it may not be. Get some help today! I have no experience but you should trust your gut on this one. Doesn't hurt to be extra cautious!

  • My opinion is always listen to your body if your really concerned and your doctor isn't around go to ER they can help you and you don't want to risk something being really wrong in the end do what you think is best
  • I would go to the hospital and see a doctor.
  • If I were you, I'd go in to Labor and Delivery and tell them to page an MFM or Perinatologist. I'm surprised they just sent you home.

This!  I wish I knew what to tell you but trust your instincts mama and good luck.

  • My fluid dropped to 5 and my peri had me deliver that day. Granted I had been in the hospital already for a week prior because of bronchitis and was really sick, but she didn't want to take any chances. I would go follow up with your OB right away.

He's my fairytale, a dream when I'm not sleeping.

  • I know all Dr's are different but my OB says anything less than 8 is low.  I would call that's a big decrease IMO.

  • My fluid dropped to a 4 with my DD and they induced me the next day. I'd say go to L&D asap. Good luck.
