Potty training?

Anyone have success yet? How'd you go about it? DD is showing all signs, but we have yet to have success. I let her go bare-bottomed at home, and she just pees all over the place. Day care suggested we try this weekend since its a long weekend, but I'm tired of cleaning up pee :(

Re: Potty training?

  • Nora's not quite ready yet, but she's getting there. She's waking up dry more often than not, and she will tell me after she needs her diaper changed, but at this point, she refuses to actually sit on the potty or the big toilet.

  • We're going to officially start trying to PL after we get back from vacation this summer. She like's to sit on the potty but never wants to pee in it. If she has to go she wants to put her diaper back on. I think she's almost ready though.

We tried at the end of Feb- what a mess, pee everywhere.  DS has figured out how to poop in the potty, just doesn't want to take the time to do it.  Our daycare also suggested this weekend.  However- we just had DS #2 and a 9 week and potty training the 2 y/o does not sound like any fun.

We just bought a boat with a bathroom.  I am hoping the novelty of the boat bathroom will help!  If not, I am going to let him run naked outside on the weekends and pray that it clicks before college!

Yup, we did the 3 day method a month ago and it worked great! We are still going commando as undies at this point is just one more layer to pull down. We didn't give her any rewards, just gave high-fives and lots of praise.

We still diaper for naps and bedtime. She has started waking up from naps dry, and just this morning she woke up in the morning dry!

She occasionally has a accident, but every time there was clearly a parenting fail. Overall very very happy with how well everything went.

  • I don't think I used a particular method but right around his 2nd birthday we thought we'd give the potty a try and see how it went.  It just immediately clicked for DS, I haven't changed a poopy diaper in nearly 2 months and we are in underwear full time except at bed time cause I haven't bought a mattress cover yet.  He actually got up to go pee in the middle of the night the other night!  So I say give it a try and see if it works.  If it hadn't clicked immediately with DS I would have stopped and tried again later.

We're trying but without much success.  He has peed and pooped (once) in the potty at daycare, but at home it seems to lead to major meltdowns.  I'm going to try this weekend since it's a long weekend and we'll see what happens.

We are doing the 3 day method here.  One accident today.  We have been trying off and on since she was 18 months old (my older DDs were going by themselves at 18ms) and with a new baby it was touch and go.

We tried rewards but have found greater success with praising her when she goes.  We do a song and dance.

FX by the end of the weekend we are potty trained.

  • Since we were expecting DS2, who just arrived last week, we decided to put PTing off until the late summer/fall. DS1 is probably ready for it, but he's not clamoring and we're not really in a rush. I want to get through the new baby transition and DS1's move up to the older room in daycare in two weeks before we tackle the PT challenge.

  • I have had success with potty training, probably not because I did anything special though. I tried to push my DD into in to it when she was about 22 months, it was horrible...nothing worked. So 6 weeks later, tried again, still a horrible experience. About a week after her birthday I decided ok, no more diapers, if she can take them off after she pees i'm done with going back. So we just went did diapers for Sleeptime. After two weeks of that, some messes and daycare being totally on board with helping, we are now officially #1 and #2 trained, and sleeping without diapers. Of course we have messes now and then but i'm not going back. she is doing great, we had a doll that we "made pee" in the other potty while she pee'd or poo'd in the big girl potty, potty dance and mini m&m's everytime she went! After a few weeks the snacks and doll went away (she still will ask every now and then for a "Nack" and i'll give in :P). But I truly do believe when they are ready they are ready and with a little extra time and coaxing from us they will get it! Good Luck and try to not get discouraged!
