Nursery

What is the normal time to set up the crib and getting "nursery" set up?

Also when is a good time to wash up the clothes and put the blankets on the crib?

My daughter is 5 now, so it has been a while, and I don't remember when I did hers? I just know it was about a month and half early or so

when is everyone else getting your stuff ready?  :)

Re: Nursery

  • I'm a teacher so I will be going back to work about a month before my due date. I'm also a FTM and a little excited so that might have something to do with it but we are planning on starting to paint either this week or next. We have the paint but a friend offered to do it because we want like green hills and sky and stuff so we just have to coordinate schedules and stuff. As far as the rest of it, my plan is over the summer when I'll have the time to do all that stuff. That way I can take my time and have everything just the way I want :)

  • I am getting things cleaned out and organized little by little but my goal is to be ready by thirty five weeks. DD was almost two weeks late but I don't think I will feel like doing much in the end.

  • I dont think there is "normal" time to get everything set up. You can set it up as earl/late as you want really. We are moving in mid june so will start working on the nursery in mid-july. Also the crib and a dresser are on a back order so I wont probably get them until 6-8 weeks before the due date so it'll be a mad dash to the finish line once I do.
  • Our LO's room is still quite a mess since it was our "catch all" room. It has two cribs, two dressers, a huge four foot tall air compressor, a desk, a huge computer chair, a toddler-sized table and four chairs, and misc baby items we've put in there as we acquired them. To be honest, I'm not even looking forward to setting up the room because it's like playing Jenga just to take piece of furniture out of the room at this point.  We'll probably tackle it at some point in mid or late July, I imagine.

With my first DD we set up her nursery about two months before she was born. It was nice because I was so mobile still at that point, but I felt like it made the anticipation so.much.worse. Every time I walked by her pretty little room just waiting for her to come home I'd get all teary.

I'm a FTM, but I have been doing a little bit here and there each weekend. Only thing set up is the dresser. I'm waitin til after my shower, June 30 to wash anything since I'm sure I will get a lot of clothing and bedding and stuff that needs to be washed. We r installing a fan soon on the ceiling so after that we will paint the room then set up the crib. I am hoping to have everything done by end of July. We r due sept. 5. So August in the high heat of summer I would like to just kick up my feet!

  • I was wondering this too actually because I haven't even started to organize or declutter in there yet! It's packed with random stuff from when we moved in, and we now have to figure out what to do with the big items like our futon and desk and what not.. I'm eager to paint though so the fumes are all out of the room and house by the time baby is born. I'm thinking about decluttering this week and maybe starting to paint in the next 2 or 3 weeks so the summer air can circulate through the open windows ! We also haven't purchased any baby furniture yet, so were gonna wait til after the baby shower, my guess is ill have mostly everything set up and washed before I'm 35 weeks.
  • There is no "normal time" you do it whenever you want to.

Ours is about 75% complete we just need to assemble the crib and hang all of the wall art. I still need to finish making some of the art and DH has some shelves to hang.

I haven't prepped any of the clothing or cloth diapers yet, I'm saving that for 3rd tri when I get into nesting mode, otherwise I may end up re-washing everything at 35 weeks like last time ;)

  • This is stressing me out a bit :) We are getting a crib, changing table and glider from DH's aunt (3 years old, in great condition) but the problem is, her son still sleeps in it and they're working on getting him out now... we might not get it until late july/mid august. It is stressful because we can't decide which room to use until we get the crib and see the sizing. YIKES!

This makes me feel like I'm not as behind as I was feeling. We JUST started working on the room today and there's a lot to do. We're consolidating two home offices into one and we have a lot to clean and declutter.

Today we got paint samples and picked what we liked, I moved my craft stuff into the other room, and painted the shelf my craft stuff was on in the accent color to be used for toys and books.

    Still have to:

    -clean and declutter

-move our bookshelf into our bedroom

-move my desk into the other office and move a cheap desk from there out and find something to do with it

-upholster the window seat in the nursery

-get shelves and bars for the closet and install

-set up everything from the shower july 6th, get what we still need and set that up

-organize a bunch of my husband's crap

and I'm sure there's more I'm forgetting. sheesh.

  • If they know the model/company of the crib, you can look it up online. If not, have them measure it for you. Take painter's tape and box out the footprint of the crib on the floor where you think you want the crib. This is a good way to get an idea of something will fit or not. you can then use the same paint on the wall to mark out the length of the crib at the appropriate height; it is a cheap and easy visualization tool. I did this when looking for bookshelves as well as a possible new shelving unit in our kitchen. Best of luck!
