Unnatural hair colors

I am not talking about dying your red or blue.

I am talking about my SIL dying her hair a too light blond that does not go with her pale/pinkish skin tone.

Brassy blond is another no IMO.  I also do not like when someone as a beautiful, natural dark color (like Spanish decent or Asian) and dye their hair blond.

What are your hair color no-no's?

Re: Unnatural hair colors

  • When H was in 8th grade, he bleached the tips of his hair. He has black hair, so the tips were orange!

I know a redhead who dyes her hair black. She's fair skinned with freckles, so it looks horrible.

I have red hair. My.mom wouldnt never let me do anything to it in fear that it would grow back a different color !?.
So i bleached my whole head. IT WAS SO.AWFUL!! She didnt even make me go to school until i could get it fixed. When i went to the hairdresser ::who i have known about my whole life:: i.asked her to dye it back as close to my red as i could. She dyed it ash blonde. Omg horrible! It turned freakin green. It was just an awful experience and i haven't even put highlights in my hair since.
  • Ew, I hate that too. One of my biggest hair no-nos is someone with a fake dark tan, and fake light blonde hair. Nasty.

Generally, if someone goes from dark hair to light hair, I like it less.

  • I also hate unnatural tan and blond. Ick.

I love dark hair and have a hard time understanding why people go lighter. But I have never dyed or highlighted my hair so maybe I'm missing something.

My mom and i are naturally medium brown. currently her hair is so blond it's white. I hate hate hate it. I tell her all the time that it makes her look older and she doesn't believe me.

I also hate when people try to do blonde and it comes out orange. Just freaking do it again because you look like McDonald's Mac sauce.

    F I'm hungry because McD's sounds heavenly.

Along with everything you said, I think ombre hair is ridiculous.

Had to google that one, but agreed.  It looks like your hair color is fading to me.

    2 hair dyes I hate:

First one is when the person has blonde all on top and black/brown underneath.  Reminds me of a skunk!!

Secondly, I hate the new "ombre" effect.  It looks like the person needs a dye job in the.worst.way.

I'm sure this should be posted under UO, because these are both trends right now and I'm sure many like it.  Not me!

  • I don't mind ombre if its done right. My friend had hers done, and it looks really pretty.

I don't like bleach blonde hair at all. Especially with a tan. Ick.

I also don't like chunky highlights, tips, or that really unnatural blueish black color.

  • My hair is a light brown naturally. My husband likes it highlighted blond, and I've dyed it dark brown previously. Both look ok. I've never done black. I think it would look atrocious on me.

  • Skunk like, chunky, yellow, looking highlights. I am guilty of having AWFUL highlights back in my younger days too. But I was young and dumb.

Haha, I have to agree with you ladies.  It can be really fun to do your hair purple or something but the unnatural "natural" colors are so ugly.  I can't stand it when people do bleached blond and I really don't get the new ombrea(sp?) look either.

Agreed. I always thought it looked liek you were growing out your color.

I also don't get if your hair is primarily gray, not embracing it.

  • For me personally, any warm tone. I can do pretty much any shade of blonde down to dark brown as long as it is an ashy color.

I totally agree. I have a "rule": you can go as light as the hair color you had as a child. If you were blond as a child, then you can dye you hair blond. If it has never been blond, don't even try it. UO: I hate Beyonce's hair!!! she must look amazing with black hair.

  • Haha well, speaking as someone who has been brunette, red head, platinum blonde, strawberry blonde, had black, blue/black, green, electric blue, pink, burgundy, and purple hair I probably can't say much. Actually everyone has told me I look the best with dark emerald hair, and I do agree. I get tons of compliments. People walk up and ask to take pictures with me and follow me around lol. It's weird. So they weren't all bad.

I do agree with the Hispanic and Asian girls with light hair. It just doesn't look great on them with their skin tone. If they have caramel colored skin and caramel colored hair there's no contrast, it washes them out.

I will never bleach my hair again. That is my hair color no-no. I've tried twice now. It turns orange, then it is splotchy caramel blonde in places and brown in places. Then the third bleach treatment it's white and fried to the point of no return. I asked to have it done once and he basically told me no and gave me platinum highlights. It was so gross.
