Anyone started their babies on cereal yet? If so, how is it going? My LO is still getting up every 3 hours at night. I pump and feed him with a bottle. Could this maybe help?
Feeding solids to increase sleep is on OWT. My son still wakes up every 2-3 hours after his first 4-5 hour stretch. Unless your son is waking because of reflux issues and you want to soothe that I don't think cereal will help his sleep.
About solids though, I started peas this week.... DS hit all the developmental milestones (sit up, no tongue reflex, grabs at food, interested in adults eating, etc) and will be five months soon. It's going really well! He gets one tbsp a night after his 5pm feed. He made some pretty hilarious faces the first couple times... not sure what it was I was feeding him, but he made exaggerated chewing motions and swallowed most of it down, no problem. Now he seems to look forward to his peas. I'm going to try sweet potato tonight!
ETA: My grandmother suggested cereal to help DS STTN when he was only 6 weeks old! I just smiled and nodded. It's a popular OWT and you'll hear it a lot, but it really is a myth sorry.
Unfortunately we had to this past week. DD went from being consistently petite to losing weight. Nothing else was working so we have been advised by more than 1 Dr. to add it to give her more calories. We started on Tuesday and there has been no change in her sleep. Our original plan, as well as our Pedi's usual recommendation, was to go straight to fruits and veggies at 6 months but that got thrown out the window.
There is absolutely no way I would ever consider giving her cereal so I could get more sleep at night.
